BOSTON – Riding a six-game win streak, the Boston University softball team will visit crosstown rival Boston College for a Thursday matchup with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
After recording a season-opening split at Providence, the Terriers posted two more wins against the Friars and then outscored Merrimack on the road last week by a combined score of 31-4 over four games. Junior and reigning Patriot League Player of the Week
Nicole Amodio led the offensive explosion against the Warriors batting a stellar .667 with two homers, two doubles and eight RBIs. Senior and reigning PL Pitcher of the Week
Ali DuBois (6-0) held Merrimack to a .089 batting average and one earned run in 16 innings of work with the help of 30 strikeouts.
Overall through eight games, BU is batting .303 with a 25-6 advantage in extra-base hits. Amodio leads the Terriers at .556 and 11 RBIs with junior
Emily Gant (.368) and freshman
Lauren Keleher (.360) combining for 14 RBIs. Sophomore
Caitlin Coker is the fourth Terrier over .300 at .318 with four stolen bases, and junior
Aliyah Huerta-Leipner owns a team-high 10 runs scored while hitting .292.
In the circle, DuBois has collected three shutouts and is holding opponents to a .128 batting average while posting a 0.20 ERA. Sophomore
Allison Boaz (1-0, 1.85 ERA) owns BU's other win after no-hitting Merrimack in five innings. Gant and sophomore
Lizzy Avery have also appeared in the circle, combining for four strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
The Eagles dominated competition last week at home with an 8-0 (6) win over Bryant and 10-0 (5) victory over UMass. They also own a 1-0 win at NC State and 2-0 victory at North Florida with one-run losses to NC State and Jacksonville. Ellie Matya leads BC at .459 with four double, six stolen bases and seven RBIs, while Gianna Occagno (.179) owns a team-high two homers. Susannah Anderson (3-4, 3.66 ERA) owns three shutouts with 37 strikeouts in 39.1 innings and opponents batting .238. CC Cook (1-3, 5.40 ERA) has started four games with seven strikeouts in 20.0 innings.
The Terriers are 21-26-0 all-time in the series dating back to their first varsity season in 1988. BU snapped a six-game losing streak in 2019 with a thrilling 3-2 walk-off win thanks to
Emily Morrow's ('19) two-out, two-RBI walk-off triple. DuBois held the Eagles to two unearned runs with the help of six strikeouts against three hits allowed, while Anderson had seven strikeouts against four hits in 6.2 innings of work.
Following the matchup, BU will host Stony Brook twice on Saturday (March 20) and then visit BC again on Tuesday (March 23) at 3 p.m.
