BURLINGTON, Vt. – Several throwers from the Boston University men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their 2021 outdoor season by competing at UVM on Friday.
The day was highlighted by multiple throwers scoring personal bests including
Adam Crawford in the javelin (60.36m, 198'),
Emma Kowalski in the hammer throw (52m, 170'7") and both
Fred Lu (13.55m, 44'5.5") and
Dave Vovor (12.93m, 42' 5.25") in the shot put.
"This was a great first step for our group to start outdoor season," said BU assistant coach for throws
Grant Cartwright. "With everything that is happened in the world this last year, their continued improvement is a credit to the groups willingness to confront adversity head on, and continue to find ways to work towards their goals in any circumstance. We look forward to getting back to work and reuniting with the greater team for our next competition in preparation for the championship phase of the season."

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES - MEN
- Sophomore Adam Crawford had a terrific performance in the in the javelin throw, finishing first with a throw of 60.36 meters (198'), a new personal best.
- Freshman Sam Dennerlein took first in the shot put with a throw of 13.87 meters (45'6.25"). Dennerlein also competed in the hammer throw and finished second (42.13m, 138'3").
- Competing in the shot put, junior Fred Lu finished fourth with a personal best throw of 13.55m (44'5.5") while classmate Dave Vovor finished fifth with a throw of 12.93m (42' 5.25") also a personal best.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES - WOMEN
- Freshman Emma Kowalski had a terrific meet, taking first in the hammer throw with a tremendous throw of 52m (170'7") and setting a new personal best. Kowalski also took first in the discuss with a throw of 42.93m (140'10"), another personal best throw.
- Also competing in the shot put, freshman Juliana Nakouzi took fourth with a throw of 11.23m (36'10.25") while classmate Katherine George took fifth with a throw of 11.16m (36'7.5"), both new personal bests.
- Competing in the discuss, freshman Juliana Nakouzi finished second with a throw of 39.77m (130'6"), a personal best.
- Senior Bridget Bishop finished second in the shot put with a throw of 12.57m (41'3").

The Terriers will continue their outdoor season when the team travels to UMass Amherst to compete on April 9 and 10.
