BOSTON - Heading into the homestretch of the regular season, the Boston University women's lacrosse team will open its April scheduled against Lafayette this Sunday, April 4. Opening draw from Nickerson Field is scheduled for noon.
Jennifer Barry had a performance worthy of national attention in last Saturday's 17-12 win over Holy Cross, as she broke the single-game draw control record (18) and set additional career highs in goals (3), assists (3) and points (6). Barry was recognized as the IWLCA Offenisve Player of the Week and the Patriot League Midfielder of the Week. The sophomore ranks 10th nationally in draw controls per game (8.0) while her 18 draw controls were the most any NCAA player has won in a single game this season.
Ava Barry and Makenzie Irving are coming off seven-point games, as each produced a hat trick and four assists. Barry is one point away from reaching 100 career points. Irvine has five straight multi-goal games and leads the team with 14 on the season.
Emily Vervlied holds the team lead in both points (22) and assists (9) and has multi-goal efforts in 5-of-6 games.
Lafayette is off to an 0-3 start, which includes an 0-2 clip in North Division games. Olivia Cunningham leads the Leopards in points (9) and assists (3), and is tied with Anna Stein for the lead in goals (6). Mia Magarro anchors the defense with 15 ground balls and six caused turnovers.
BU has taken all seven matchups against Lafayette. The Terriers have scored at least 14 goals in each of the last six matchups, and netted 18 as part of an 18-8 victory in the last matchup in 2019.
