BOSTON - Ready for its return to the postseason, the Boston University women's soccer team will open up its Patriot League Tournament title run on Wednesday, April 14 against Colgate. Kickoff from Nickerson Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Terriers clinched the Patriot League North Division after Friday's conclusion of games. Army and Lafayette were scheduled to play Sunday, but Lafayette's cancelation paved the way for the Army vs. Colgate game to serve as a play-in game. The Raiders clinched the No. 2 seed after a 1-0 double overtime win over the Black Knights thanks to Lyna Schaffer's golden goal in the 112th minute.
Wednesday's winner will book its ticket to the Patriot League title game, set to take place on Saturday, April 17. The winner of the Navy vs. Loyola South Division semifinal matchup will host the championship game since both teams finished the regular season with more points than both BU and Colgate.
BU took the earlier matchup this season against the Raiders, 2-0, behind early strikes from
Geovanna Pereira and
Jenna Oldham. The duo of Pereira and Oldham have combined for nine of BU's 13 points this season. Pereira leads the Terriers in goals (2) while Oldham has scored or assisted on all four goals and is tied for the league lead in assists (3).Â
Morgan Messner has started all four games in net, tallying clean sheets in two of those, and owns a 0.71 goals against average and .786 save percentage.
The Raiders are coming off back-to-back divisional wins to force their way into the postseason. Hannah Pinkus leads the team in goals (3), which is also tied for the league lead, and Ruby Diodati holds the team lead in assists (3). In net, Sophia Boggs has started six games, posting a 0.95 goals against average and a .625 save percentage.
Wednesday will mark the third postseason matchup between the Terriers and Raiders. Additionally, it will be the first postseason matchup on Nickerson Field between the two squads. BU advanced on penalty kicks after 110 minutes of scoreless action in the first tournament matchup in 2013, and met against the following season in the championship game, where BU earned a 2-1 victory.
