The Boston University golf team will defend its conference title this weekend at the 2021 Patriot League Championship hosted by Lehigh at Saucon Valley CC.
The six-team field will play 36 holes on Saturday before teeing off for the final round on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. The Terriers are aiming for their third Patriot League title after winning in 2019 and 2015. If BU wins, it will be the second time in program history that it won back-to-back conference championships, as the Terriers were America East champions in 2006 and 2007.
Junior
Hanako Kawasaki is also defending her Patriot League title after becoming the first player in conference history to be named Golfer of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season. If she wins this weekend, she'd join
Adela Cejnarova ('17) as Terriers with victories in consecutive Patriot League Championships. Cejnarova was victorious in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Kawasaki already has one win on her resumé this season, winning the Hartford/Tumble Brook Invitational with a one-under 71.
Graduate student
Zhangcheng Guo is the other Terrier to return from the 2019 squad. She is a two-time All-Patriot League selection, earning first-team honors in 2018 and second-team accolades in 2019. This will be her fourth Patriot League Championship appearance; she has three top-20 finishes at this event.
Four Terriers will be making their Patriot League debuts this weekend. Sophomore
Alice Fan is second on the squad with a 76.86 scoring average through five events this year. She is one of five Terriers, including freshman
Flair Kuan and sophomore
Monica Yu, who have posted a top-20 performance in every start they've made this spring. Kuan earned her first collegiate victory in the Terriers' match against Holy Cross. Sophomore
Kristen Min Ju Kim has three top-10 finishes this year, including a pair of top-five performances.
The Patriot League champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Golf Regionals. The individual medalist will also receive a bid to the NCAA Women's Golf Regionals if they are not on the championship team. NCAA Regionals will be held from May 10-12 at four regional sites around the country. The 2021 NCAA DI Women's Golf Selection Show will be televised on GOLF Channel on April 28. The broadcast time is to be determined.
