BROOKLINE, Mass. – Taking the road down the street for its 2021 season opener, the Boston University women's soccer team utilized a pair of early goals as it posted a 2-0 win over Northeastern Thursday night at Parsons Field.
Senior
Margaret Berry flicked a header off senior
Jenna Oldham's corner kick that had just enough steam to power into the back of the net for the opening goal in the 11th minute.
Junior
Sophia Woodland followed soon after, taking a feed from Oldham before weaving through a defender, and blasted a shot that landed just inside the near post to push the lead to 2-0 in the 20th minute.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU's defense and freshman Celia Braun fended off a pair of Northeastern shots in the initial minutes of play.
- On the Terriers' third straight corner kick by Oldham, Berry thrusted the feed right at the goalkeeper, who couldn't handle the spin as it went off her hands and into the back of the net to get BU on the scoreboard first.
- Oldham continued to wreak havoc on the defense in the 20th minute, driving down the right wing and crossed it through the center to Woodland, who zig-zagged past a defender and slipped the ball inches inside the post to push the advantage to 2-0.
- Junior Gretchen Bennett made a key stop on a breakaway in transition in the 85th minute to preserve the shutout.
