Oldham's Two Goals Take BU Past UNH, 2-1

BOSTON - Senior Jenna Oldham scored a goal in each half to lead the Boston University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

Oldham, the Terriers' assist leader who had tallied just one career goal prior to Sunday, gave BU (3-4-1) a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute off an assist from junior Julianna Stureman. She then slotted home a penalty in the 60th minute to ensure the Terriers were victorious. UNH (2-4-1) converted a penalty in the 63rd minute to cut the Terriers' lead in half, but BU held on for the victory.

Junior goalkeeper Gretchen Bennett started the game and made two saves before freshman Celia Braun stopped three shots the final 45 minutes to preserve the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU got off to a bright start, earning a corner in the second minute that led to an Ashley Buck header that went wide.
  • Bennett made two saves in the first eight minutes to keep UNH off the board.
  • Oldham and Stureman combined for the opening goal in the 30th minute. Stureman played the ball wide to Oldham and then continued her run into the box. Oldham passed it back to her and Stureham played it first time right back to Oldham, who beat her defender to the ball at the top of the six-yard box and slotted home her first goal of the season.
  • Braun entered the game in the second half and immediately made an impact, turning aside a UNH header off a corner kick in the 47th minute.
  • Oldham doubled the Terriers' lead in the 60th minute with a well-placed penalty. She ran right a defender in the box to draw the foul and then converted from the spot for her second goal of the day.
  • UNH answered with a penalty of its own in the 63rd minute to make it a 2-1 score, but the Wildcats were unable to equalize.
