BOSTON – With a chance to match its best Patriot League start in program history, the Boston University women's basketball team engages Navy for a Saturday, Jan. 15 tilt. Opening tip from Maryland is set for 1 p.m.
BU has won four straight games to start PL play, sitting at the top of the standings with the 4-0 record as one of two remaining undefeated teams (Lafayette at 3-0). Saturday marks only the Terriers' second PL road game of the year, which also took place in Maryland against Loyola on Jan. 5.
After dropping its first two league matchups, Navy has won two of its last three, with both wins coming on the road. The Mids' defense has surrendered less than 65 points in four of five PL contests, with the lone exception coming against BU.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU boosted its win streak to four games with a 64-56 victory over Army on Jan. 12.
- After nursing a mere 22-21 lead at halftime, the Terriers shot 50 percent from the field in the second half.
- Freshman Alex Giannaros unloaded a career-high 24 points to pace the Terriers. Junior Sydney Johnson added 14 points.
- Junior Maren Durant grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds. With three blocks, she passed Kerry Cashman and moved into 10th place in Terrier history with 96 career blocks.
- Senior Chiara Tibbitt tied a career-high with eight boards off the bench. She has a pair of eight-rebound games in her BU tenure, both coming against the Black Knights.
- Giannaros leads the Terriers during Patriot League play with 16.5 points per game and a .423 three-point percentage. The latter is best among all PL student-athletes, while her scoring average is fifth.
- Durant's 11.3 rebounds per game vs. conference foes is third in the PL. Sophomore Caitlin Weimar, also averaging 12 points per contest during PL play, ranks fifth with 10.3/game.
- Weimar is one of four Patriot League student-athletes averaging a double-double during PL play.
- Sitting at 96 career rejections, Durant is three blocks away from Alison Dixon for ninth place in BU's annals.
- During Patriot League play, the Terriers lead the PL in scoring average (69.8), scoring margin (+17), field goal percentage (.422), rebounds per game (47.3), defensive boards per game (33.8), rebounding margin (+13.5), and blocks per game (6.25).
- BU started Patriot League play 5-0 in just one other season: 2020-21. The last time BU started 5-0 in conference in consecutive years was when the Terriers did so in five straight seasons from 2008-13 as America East members.
SCOUTING THE MIDS
- Navy has started Patriot League play 2-3, and is 5-10 overall.
- The Mids defeated Bucknell 57-55 back on Jan. 5, and most recently fended off Colgate 65-62 this past Wednesday.
- Navy is just 2-7 at home this year, with its last win coming against Vermont on Nov. 20. The Mids are 0-2 in Annapolis against Patriot League foes.
- Jennifer Coleman, who recently surpassed the 1,000-point mark in her career, continues to lead the league in scoring. She has averaged 21.4 points per game in PL play, and is sixth in the league with 10 rebounds per contest in that span.
- Sydne Watts and Lindsay Llewellyn are averaging 9.2 and eight points per game in league games, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY
- Saturday marks the 17th all-time meeting between BU and Navy. This will be BU's first rematch of the 2021-22 campaign.

- Giannaros dropped 18 points to pace the Terriers, while Weimar added her first BU double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Beneventine scored a career-high 11 points.
- Though the Mids still lead the rivalry 10-6, the Terriers have won four of the last five battles. All four of those wins have come by double digits.
- BU has won just one road game against Navy, a 49-35 triumph back on Jan. 26, 2019.
