BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer program is set for its ninth appearance in 10 seasons as a league member in the Patriot League Tournament, hosting six-seed Loyola Maryland in the quarterfinal round on Sunday (Oct. 30). Opening kick is set for 2 p.m., and admission is free to the public.

BU secured the third seed in the postseason after compiling six wins against league foes, and went 10-8 overall. The Terriers' all-time record in the Patriot League Tournament is 10-3-1, with Sunday marking its first appearance in the quarterfinals since 2017.

Loyola Maryland captured the final spot in the postseason, going 3-4-2 in league action and winning the tiebreaker over Colgate. This year is the Greyhounds' fourth-straight year in the Patriot League Tournament.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU enters the quarterfinals after falling to Army West Point 3-2 on Wednesday (Oct. 26).
  • Seniors Julianna Stureman and Sophia Woodland each potted game-tying goals, the latter converting a header in the 81st minute. However, Army delivered the game-winner with 37 seconds remaining in the contest.
  • On Friday, the Patriot League announced its postseason awards, with BU matching the league lead with six student-athletes being selected to All-Patriot League teams.
  • Freshman Giulianna Gianino was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, becoming the fifth Terrier to earn the award since BU joined the league in 2013.
  • Redshirt seniors Jenna Oldham and Amy Thompson garnered First Team honors.
  • BU had three recipients on the Second Team in Gianino, junior Abigail McNulty, and sophomore Morgan Fagan.
  • Junior Lily Matthews was chosen for the Third Team.

  • Sunday will be BU's ninth time hosting a Patriot League Tournament contest at Nickerson Field. The Terriers are 6-2 in those matches.

SCOUTING LOYOLA MARYLAND
  • The Greyhounds enter the tournament on a three-match losing streak, having won once since Sept. 24.
  • Loyola Maryland's league wins have come against Colgate, Navy, and Holy Cross. Their ties were vs. regular season champion Army and No. 2 seed Bucknell.
  • Three Greyhounds received postseason honors. Baylee DeSmit was named to the First Team, while Sarah Mirr and Alex Searing garnered Second Team recognition.
  • DeSmit led the Patriot League with 19 points in the regular season, and shared the league lead with Fagan, Bucknell's Abby Gearhart, and Lehigh's Corinne Lyght with six goals.

  • Last year, Loyola Maryland suffered a 2-1 loss to sixth-seeded Army in the quarterfinal round.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Sunday marks the 13th all-time meeting between BU and Loyola Maryland in a series that began in 2009.
  • The Terriers sport an 8-1-3 record in the rivalry, and currently have an eight-match unbeaten streak that started in 2015.
  • The sides have only met once in the Patriot League Tournament. In the semifinal round on Nov. 6, 2015, the top-ranked Terriers triumphed over the fourth-seeded Greyhounds, 2-1.
  • BU and Loyola Maryland squared off in the regular season on Oct. 22 in Baltimore, Md.
  • The Terriers were victorious, 3-1. Fagan, Oldham, and senior Marli Rajacich each found the back of the net.

UP NEXT
  • The winner of Sunday's match moves on to the semifinal round on Thursday (Nov. 3).
  • A BU victory would send the Terriers to No. 2 Bucknell in that scenario.
  • Should Loyola Maryland win, its next opponent would be determined by the outcome of No. 4 Lehigh and No. 5 Navy, which kicks off on Sunday at the same time.
