BOSTON – The Boston University women's basketball program begins its 48th varsity season when it welcomes local rival Northeastern to Case Gym on Monday (Nov. 7). Opening tip is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Opening night serves as a BU basketball doubleheader, as the men's team squares off against the Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Before the women's game, BU Athletics is hosting a pregame tailgate on West Campus beginning at 4 p.m., featuring free food, giveaways, and more.
BU welcomes back 10 letterwinners from the 2021-22 squad that went 17-14, matching a program record with 12 wins in Patriot League play. Head Coach

Northeastern also embarks on its season opener after a 14-win season last year. The Huskies return seven student-athletes from that team.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU went 12-6 in Patriot League play to capture the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, reaching the PL Semifinals after defeating Army West Point 80-74 in the quarterfinal round.
- All four of the Terriers' 2021-22 All-Patriot League honorees return in Sydney Johnson (First Team), Maren Durant (All-Defensive, Third Team), Caitlin Weimar (Third Team), and Alex Giannaros (All-Rookie).
- BU was selected as the preseason favorite in the Patriot League for the first time in program history, receiving 16 out of 20 first-place votes.
- Johnson was named the 2022-23 Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year, and earned a spot on the Preseason All-League squad.
- Durant was chosen as the inaugural Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year before this season.
- Three additional Terriers who averaged more than 15 minutes per game also come back in Liz Shean, Maggie Pina, and Sophie Beneventine.
- In total, BU returns 84.8 percent of its points from last year's team.
- The Terriers welcome two newcomers in Samantha Crispe and Anastasiia Semenova.
- Graves as well as assistant coaches Brianna Finch and Kourtni Williams continue in their roles from last season.
- Director of Operations Jason Pellum was elevated from his role last year as video coordinator.
- Assistant Coach Toccara Ross and Video Coordinator Adia Maund joined the coaching staff ahead of the season.
- BU will play a 29-game schedule this season, featuring 11 non-conference games. The Terriers will play against foes from seven different conferences.
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
- Northeastern went 8-10 in CAA play last year, going 14-18 overall.
- After the Huskies fell to Towson in the CAA Quarterfinals, Northeastern played in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI), dropping three games to Cleveland State, Davidson, and Furman.
- Gemima Motema is the Huskies' leading returning scorer at nine points per game. She was named a Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention.
- Northeastern added a handful of transfers, including Derin Erdogan (Arizona), Deja Bristol (Virginia), and Jaelyn Batts (Boston College).
- Bridgette Mitchell is in her second season as head coach.
- The Huskies were projected to finish eighth in the CAA Preseason Poll.
SERIES HISTORY
- Monday marks the 80th all-time meeting between BU and Northeastern in a series that began in 1976.
- The Huskies are the most common opponent BU has played.
- The Terriers sport a 41-38 edge in the rivalry.
- BU is 26-13 at home against Northeastern.
- Both teams have alternated wins and losses in the last five contests, dating back to 2016.
- In last year's matchup, Northeastern triumphed, 53-45 at the Cabot Center. Johnson posted 10 points and three assists, while Riley Childs added a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double.
