BOSTON – Wrapping up non-conference play for the 2022-23 season, the Boston University women's basketball program hosts its final home game in the calendar year, welcoming Harvard to Terrier Town on Wednesday (Dec. 21). Opening tip is set for 4 p.m.
BU vies for its 32nd home win in its last 40 contests at Case Gym. The Terriers have won three straight games at home this year, averaging 70.8 points, 43.5 rebounds, and 19 assists per matchup.
Harvard, also taking part in its non-conference finale, aims for its fourth win in its last five games. Wednesday will be just the Crimson's third true road tilt this year.
The Terriers are hosting Ugly Sweater Night at Case Gym on Wednesday. Fans that wear an ugly sweater on Wednesday can enter to win a Starbucks gift card.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU dropped a 58-46 decision at Yale on Dec. 13.
- The Terriers were held to season-lows of 46 points, a 25 percent three-point percentage, and eight assists.
- Sophomore Alex Giannaros came off the bench with 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting, making both of her three-point attempts.
- Senior Sydney Johnson added 10 points, marking her eighth game in double digits this year.
- Classmate Maren Durant led BU in rebounding for the 39th time in her career, snagging eight boards while adding two blocks.
- Durant now stands at 137 blocks in her career, three away from matching Nicole Gourdet '97 for fourth place all-time at BU. She is also 24 rebounds away from entering the top 10 all-time in the Terrier annals.
- Johnson, who ranks 25th all-time in scoring in program history, needs 49 more points to reach 1,000 in her career.
- Giannaros has scored in double figures in each of her three appearances this year, to the tune of 15 points per game on 6-of-10 shooting from deep.
- Entering Tuesday (Dec. 20), the Terriers ranked fourth in the nation shooting 41.1 percent from beyond the arc. Senior Maggie Pina was fifth with an individual 53.3 percent clip.
- Starting the last three games, freshman Sam Crispe has hit 60 percent of her shots from the field.
SCOUTING HARVARD
- The Crimson are 6-5 on the season, most recently defeating Maine, 84-56, on Dec. 18.
- Harvard enters Wednesday's tilt having won three of its last four games. Each of those wins, and all but one this season, have been by double digits.
- In terms of common opponents with BU, Harvard has taken down Boston College (68-59) and Merrimack (85-43), but fallen to Northeastern (73-64). The Crimson also beat Patriot League foe Colgate, a 62-48 triumph on Dec. 3.
- Harmoni Turner leads the team, and is tied for first in the Ivy League, with 17.9 points per game. She also paces Harvard with 5.3 rebounds per game, 48 assists, and 36 steals.
- McKenzie Forbes (14.1 points per game) and Lola Mullaney (12.0) also average double figures.
- Under first-year Head Coach Carrie Moore, the Crimson were selected to finish fourth in the Ivy League Preseason Poll after going 13-14 a season ago, tallying seven victories in league play.
SERIES HISTORY
- Tuesday marks the 37th all-time meeting between BU and Harvard in a series that began in 1976.
- The Crimson has the 21-15 edge in the rivalry, spurred by a current six-game winning streak.
- The Terriers' last win in the series came on Nov. 17, 2014 at Case Gym.
