Looking to gain some ground in the race for Hockey East home ice, the Boston University women's ice hockey team travels north to Vermont to take on one of the nation's hottest teams.

TERRIER UPDATE

  • Senior Courtney Correia leads BU in both goals (11) and points (21).
  • Junior Julia Nearis is tops on the squad with 12 assists and is tied with senior Mackenna Parker (9g, 7a) for second on the Terriers with 16 points.
  • Parker scored the game-tying shorthanded goal in a 1-1 draw against UConn last Friday.
  • The Terriers have allowed exactly one goal in each of their past six periods of play.

HISTORY WITH THE CATAMOUNTS

  • The Terriers are 36-9-8 all-time against the Catamounts, including a 16-5-2 record at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
  • BU has taken five of the last seven meetings with the Catamounts and is 6-1-2 in its past nine games against Vermont.
  • The Terriers have lost two straight games against UVM just once in their 16 seasons as a varsity program.

SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS

  • Vermont currently boasts the longest win streak in the nation at nine games. That streak is the longest in program history.
  • The Catamounts are coming off a weekend sweep at Maine with scores of 2-1 and 3-1.
  • Their recent run has vaulted them to second in the Hockey East standings with a record of 16-6-1 and a points percentage of .710.
  • Seniors Theresa Schafzahl (17g, 15a) and Maude Poulin-Labelle (12g, 20a) share the team's point lead with 32 apiece.
  • Classmate Kristina Shanahan (12g, 11a) has added 23 points while yet another senior, Alyssa Holmes, has 19 points (2g, 17a).
  • In goal, sophomore Jessie McPherson (12-3-0, 1.78, .922) and senior Blanka Skodova (5-4-2, 1.99, .900) have shared time.

BACK IN OCTOBER

  • Vermont held a 1-0 lead entering the third period, but senior Emma Wuthrich forced overtime with her third goal of the season just 4:00 into the final frame to help BU earn a 1-1 draw against the Catamounts on Oct. 29 at Walter Brown Arena.
  • In the shootout, senior Courtney Correia scored the Terriers' lone goal and senior Kate Stuart turned aside all three attempts she faced to give BU the extra point in the Hockey East standings.
  • Sophomore Julia Shaunessy and junior Haylee Blinkhorn assisted on Wuthrich's strike.
  • Stuart made 23 saves in her 65 minutes of work.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Redshirt senior Maureen Murphy scored once in each period for a hat-trick performance and junior Gwyneth Philips stopped all 14 shots she faced as Boston University fell to No. 5/4 Northeastern, 3-0, on Feb. 8 in the consolation game of the 43rd Beanpot.
  • Making her first collegiate start, senior Nicole McGuigan turned in a 34-save effort for the Terriers.
  • BU held the Huskies to just four shots in the opening period but entered the first intermission with a 1-0 deficit.
UP NEXT
  • Following the weekend series, BU will prepare for a home game against Maine on Tuesday (Feb. 15).
  • Game time is set for p.m.
