Women’s Lacrosse Opens Week At Fairfield On Wednesday

BOSTON – Continuing its three-game road trip in its second week of the regular season, the Boston University women's lacrosse program prepares for a game at Fairfield this Wednesday (Feb. 23). Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
 
BU searches for its first win of 2022 after its first two games against Vermont and No. 1 Boston College. In the midst of a five-game stretch with four road contests, this swing is the longest for the Terriers this season. BU's next multi-game road trip won't occur until the end of March.
 
Fairfield hosts the Terriers before beginning its own three-game span away from home. The Stags search for their first home win of the season, and are 8-2 in their last 10 games in Fairfield, dating back to the start of last year.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • In its last game, BU dropped a 22-6 matchup to reigning national champion and No. 1 Boston College last Saturday (Feb. 19).
  • Junior Jennifer Barry recorded two goals and added seven draw controls, while sophomore Cassie Reinertson tallied a goal and an assist.
  • Junior Lauren Kaye, sophomore Tobey Tick, and freshman Abby Cotraro also found the back of the net.
  • Senior Kennady Smith and sophomore Reilly Agres combined for six saves between the pipes.
  • For Smith, her four ground balls marked a career-high.
  • Barry enters this week atop the Patriot League with 17 draw controls. Her 8.5 draw controls per game is tied for the seventh-highest amount in the nation as of Feb. 21.
  • Reinertson, Kaye, and Tick have each recorded a point in both games this season, with the former tallying multiple points in each.
  • Kaye has played 14 career games to this point, earning a point in 12 of them, scoring a goal in 11 of them, and tallying multiple goals in five of them.
  • Tick is riding a three-game goal streak, dating back to last season. She has scored eight goals in her last nine games.
  • The junior and sophomore classes have accounted for 13 of BU's 16 goals so far.
 
SCOUTING THE STAGS
  • Fairfield is 2-1 in the young season, most recently defeating Wagner on the road, 12-10, on Feb. 19.
  • The Stags also beat Patriot League rival Holy Cross in the season opener, 18-8 on Feb. 12.
  • Their lone loss came against then No. 23 UConn on Feb. 16, a 12-10 result.
  • Five different Stags have at least seven points, powered by Elizabeth Talluto's (nine goals, three assists) and Libby Rowe's (seven goals, five helpers) 12 points.
  • Kelly Horning, the 2022 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, has filled the stat sheet with five goals, three assists, eight ground balls, and seven caused turnovers.
  • Phoebe Proctor is the reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, playing every minute in goal to the tune of a 10.00 GAA and .516 save percentage.
  • Fairfield is the MAAC's preseason favorite after capturing the 2021 conference title.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Wednesday marks the sixth all-time meeting between BU and Fairfield in a series that started in 2016.
  • The Terriers have gone 5-0 in the series, playing every season from 2016-20.
  • In the last matchup between the programs on Feb. 26, 2020, BU came away with a 14-12 road win. Three different Terriers totaled three points, including Maddie MacMaster. Claire Gola (one goal, one assist) and Kaye (one goal) also recorded points. Smith played over 46 minutes, making five saves.
  • Three of the five battles have been decided by two goals or less, including two in overtime in 2017 and 2018.
  • BU is 3-0 on the road at Fairfield.
