BOSTON – The Boston University women's lacrosse team wraps up its longest road trip in the 2022 campaign when it heads to UMass on Saturday (Feb. 26). Opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
BU seeks its first win over the Minutewomen since 2013, and also searches for its first win of the season. For the Terriers, Saturday will begin a stretch of four games out of the next five taking place in Massachusetts. BU will play three games at home during that span.
Meanwhile, UMass looks to start its first winning streak of the season after alternating wins and losses through its first three contests. The Minutewomen are in their first of two four-game homestands.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- In their last game, the Terriers dropped a 14-10 road tilt at Fairfield back on Wednesday (Feb. 23).
- BU scored three straight in the fourth quarter to tie the game, but the Stags kept the visitors off the scoreboard in the final 11:31 to secure the win.
- Freshman Matty Spaeth paced the offense with four goals, including the game-tying goal that made it 10-10.
- Junior Claire Gola had two goals, while classmate Jennifer Barry added two assists and 10 draw controls.
- Graduate student Jenny Feeney set a career-high with four ground balls, while sophomore Reilly Agres made eight saves.
- Sophomore Tobey Tick also scored two goals, increasing her goal streak to four games.
- Barry collected her 100th career draw control last week, and is 22 away from entering the top 10 all-time in program history.
- Currently, her nine draw controls per game rank fifth in the nation.
- As a team, BU is 24th in Division I with its .473 shot percentage.
- Nine different Terriers have found the back of the net this year. Spaeth and junior Lauren Kaye lead the team with five goals, while sophomore Cassie Reinertson has a squad-best six points.
- Graduate student Maggie Lohrer has caused four turnovers to lead the Terriers in that category.
- Agres has 19 saves and six ground balls, both team-highs.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEWOMEN
- UMass is 2-1 in the young season, most recently defeating Vermont at home, 17-11, on Feb. 23.
- The Minutewomen also beat UMass Lowell 18-4, and lost to No. 1 Boston College 22-5.
- UMass is currently in a four-game home stretch.
- Fourteen Minutewomen have scored this year, led by Kendra Harbinger's nine. Alex Finn has a team-high five goals and three assists.
- Brinley Anderson has a team-leading seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
- Gina Carroll has the lion's share of minutes between the pipes, recording a 16.32 goals-against average and .313 save percentage.
- UMass went 15-3 with a perfect 8-0 conference mark in 2021 to capture the A-10 title. The Minutewomen were 24th in the IWLCA/IL Women Preseason Poll, and named favorites to win the A-10.
SERIES HISTORY
- Saturday marks the 26th all-time meeting between BU and UMass in a series that started in 1980.
- The Minutewomen are 15-10 to this point, having won four in a row.
- The two teams faced off in 2021 after a five-year layoff, with No. 22 UMass winning 23-13. Claire Gola set a career-high with five points off three goals and two assists, while Lauren Kaye tallied two goals and an assist.
- The Terriers' last win in the series was on Feb. 27, 2013, a 9-8 overtime triumph over the No. 14/12 Minutewomen. Kristin Mogavero and Sydney Godett scored in the extra period, while Christine Sheridan made six saves in goal.
