Weekend Recap: Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invite, Harvard Crimson Elite

BOSTON - The Boston University track & field teams hosted the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday after competing in the Harvard Crimson Elite Invitational on Friday.

Freshman Toby Makoyawo broke his own school record in the men's 60-meter dash on Friday, finishing first in a time of 6.64 seconds. On Saturday, Makoyawo was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash at 20.73 seconds, which was the second-fastest time in school history. Sophomore Dakota Jackson also competed in both of those sprints, taking sixth at Harvard in the 60-meter dash (6.77) and 16th on Saturday in the 200 (21.86)

Senior Andrea Claeson set a personal record on Saturday in the women's 800-meter run at 2:07.77, which was the fastest time by a Terrier in 31 years and good for second in program history. 

Freshman Sam Roszak set a personal record on Saturday in the men's long jump (6.77m), placing third, while junior Elvis Morara also set a personal best at 6.30 meters while finishing 10th. 

In the throwing cage, freshman Cole Tucker upped his best effort in the men's shot put to 16.59 meters, placing him fourth at the Scarlet & White Invite.

BU had a pair of strong efforts in Saturday's women's 3,000-meter run as graduate student Madeline Bachmann placed fifth (9:35.71) and senior Meghan Convery was eighth (9:45.28). 

On Saturday in the men's 800-meter run, senior Marcel Aubry took 16th (1:52.11) and sophomore Max Gorriarran was 18th (1:53.54). The men's mile run saw senior Aksel Laudon take 18th (4:08.04) and junior Foster Malleck place 22nd (4:09.48).

The team brought some of their top field athletes over to Harvard on Friday and had some impressive performances. 

Freshman Asia Hamilton finished second in the long jump (5.99m) and third in the high jump (1.70m) while sophomore Jules Hogan (5.79m) and freshman Emma Lawrence (5.72m) took third and fifth in the long jump, respectively.

Sophomore Lisa Weyhenmeyer finished second in the triple jump (11.67m) and senior Lauren Sikoski placed 13th in the pole vault (3.40m). 

Senior Kasim Cisse (2.00m) and sophomore Jack Frisbie (1.95m) took third and fifth, respectively, in the high jump. Frisbie's height was a personal record. Senior Declan Ritzenthaler moved up to fourth all-time at BU in the pole vault as he set a new personal record at 4.90 meters.

Freshman thrower Kiana Lino competed at both meets. While she finished second in the shot put at home on Saturday, she actually had a better performance in a fifth-place finish on Friday as she recorded a top throw of 13.68 meters.

Sophomore Emma Kowalski placed second in the weight throw at home on Saturday with a distance of 14.33 meters and also took seventh in the shot put (12.78m).

At the Crimson Elite 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Uchenna Nwosu took fourth (8.04) and freshman Steven Franco was fifth (8.47). 

Sophomore Isabela Shepard was 15th in the 800-meter run at home on Saturday in a time of 2:13.53 and graduate student Veronica Kriss ran the mile in 4:58.35, good for 24th. 

The Terriers will return to action next weekend when they host the David Hemery Valentine Invite on Feb. 11-12 with the women's events taking place on Friday and the men's on Saturday.
