BOSTON - The third-ranked Boston University women's lightweight rowing team swept the Bates openweight team on Sunday morning on the Charles River, taking all three races by at least 15 seconds.
The varsity eight race kicked off the day and the Terriers posted a time of 6:51.2, well ahead of Bates' 7:06.8. The BU boat was coxed by sophomore
Rayna Kuthiala and stroked by senior
Karsen Healy.
In the second varsity eight race, BU took on the Bobcats' 2V, 3V and 4V boats and topped them all, as the Terriers finished in 6:59.4 in a boat coxed by senior
Nora Chan and stroked by classmate
Caroline Birdsall. The Bates boats finished in times of 7:14.7, 7:28.4 and 7:47.8.
MIT joined in for the the varsity four with a lightweight entry and the Terriers outpaced both schools by a wide margin as the BU boat, which was coxed by sophomore Mayela Gaol and stroked by sophomore
Annelise Escudero, finished the course in 7:53.9, ahead of Bates (8:25.6) and MIT (8:27.1)
The Terriers will return to action next weekend when they travel to Cherry Hill, N.J., to compete in the Knect Cup on April 9-10.
