BOSTON – Fresh off a mid-week, non-league road win, the Boston University women's lacrosse program resumes Patriot League play with a trip to No. 24 Navy on Saturday (Apr. 9). Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
BU squares off against its third ranked opponent of the season, having already faced then-No. 1 Boston College and previously No. 7 Loyola Maryland. The Terriers' last top-25 victory came against the Mids back in 2014.
Navy seeks to maintain its unbeaten Patriot League record, sharing that distinction with the Greyhounds as well as Army West Point. The Mids are 6-2 at home this season.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers picked up their first win of the year with a 17-15 triumph at Merrimack on Wednesday (Apr. 6).
- BU set a season-high with the 17 goals, and withstood a 5-0 Warrior run in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
- Juniors Lauren Kaye and Jennifer Barry each tallied five points, as did sophomore Kendall Sims (four goals and a career-high 10 draw controls).
- Sophomore Ellen Monahan netted her first-career hat trick.
- In total, eight different Terriers racked up multiple points.
- BU ranks ninth in the nation with both a .585 draw control percentage and 17.25 draw controls per game. Barry is second in Division I with 122 draw controls in 2022.
- The Terrier offense is averaging 14 goals per game in its last three contests.
- During that stretch, Sims leads the team with nine goals and 10 points. Kaye and redshirt junior Teagan Lucchese each have five assists in that stretch.
- Spaeth, who leads the team with 23 goals this year, ranks fourth in Patriot League play with seven shots per game.
- Junior Claire Gola's 1.8 cause turnovers per PL game is second in the league. She has a team-best 15 on the campaign.
- Terrier goalies have teamed up for 55 saves against PL foes, most in the league.
SCOUTING THE MIDS
- Navy enters the contest with a 10-2 record, having won six of their last seven contests.
- The Mids were ranked as high as 17th this season.
- Navy's three-game winning streak has come against Lehigh (11-7), Lafayette (17-5), and Colgate (12-5).
- Preseason All-Patriot League pick Reagan Roelofs leads the team with 28 goals and 39 points, while ranking 28th in the nation with 5.82 draw controls per game.
- Navy leads the nation with a team .551 save percentage, fueled by goalie Jo Torres' .540 clip (second in Division I) in addition to her 7.94 goals-against average (third in D1).
- Navy received two first-place votes in the PL Preseason Poll, ranking second behind Loyola Maryland.
- Last year, the Mids went 8-4 with a 4-2 league record, earning the No. 3 seed in the PL South Division and reaching the quarterfinal round.
SERIES HISTORY
- Saturday marks the ninth all-time meeting between BU and Navy in a series that began in 2014.
- The Mids lead the matchup 6-2, having won six in a row from 2015-19.
- The Terriers won the first two duels, both of which took place in Maryland back in 2014. The BU defense held the No. 14/19 Mids off the scoreboard in the final 13:55 on Mar. 22, 2014, then the Terriers won in the Patriot League Semifinals 13-12 behind Elizabeth Morse's game-winning goal with 19.6 seconds left.
- In the last game on Apr. 25, 2019, the Mids won 13-12, despite five Terriers recording three or more points.
