BOSTON – Kristin Weisse, who most recently served as the assistant director for student-athlete services at Wake Forest, has been named the assistant athletic director for student-athlete support services at Boston University, as announced today by director of athletics
Drew Marrochello.
Â
Weisse will lead the academic support unit for the department, which serves more than 600 student-athletes. She will oversee a three-person full-time staff, in addition to tutors, who all guide Terriers through their degree programs, including course planning and eligibility, while building relationships with faculty and staff throughout campus.
Â
"We are excited to welcome Kristin to our department and the BU community as she assumes the role of overseeing our academic support unit and our student-athletes as they continue their pursuit of academic excellence," said Marrochello. "Kristin's experience at Wake Forest and commitment to providing a first-class student-athlete experience will make her a great fit at BU."
Â
Weisse, a native of East Longmeadow, Mass., has been in her most recent role at Wake Forest since 2016, serving as an academic counselor and tutor coordinator for the Demon Deacons. She worked closely with men's and women's track & field and cross country, women's soccer and men's golf, monitoring the athletes' academic performance while helping them fulfill their undergraduate requirements.
Â
"I'm excited to lead the Student-Athlete Academic Support Services team at Boston University, an institution that values excellence in both academics and athletics," said Weisse. "I am eager to support BU's tradition of high-level academics paired alongside nationally competitive athletics, and I look forward to building upon the collaborative relationships that the department has fostered with faculty, staff and campus partners. I am very thankful to
Drew Marrochello and [senior associate director of athletics]
Kristie Bowers for providing me with this wonderful opportunity, and I truly can't wait to get started."
Â
She arrived in Winston-Salem as a graduate student in 2013 and worked in the University Writing Center, mentoring students throughout campus. She joined the athletic department a year later as an assistant in the student-athlete development department and also spent a year working as a resume reviewer for the Office of Personal & Career Development.
A member of Wake Forest's cross country and indoor track teams as a graduate student, Weisse headed to Winston-Salem after graduating from UConn, where she competed on the Huskies' club cross country team.
Weisse earned dual bachelor degrees in English and psychology from UConn in 2013 before receiving her master's in English from Wake Forest in 2015.
