BOSTON – With a chance to extend its winning streak to eight games, the Boston University women's basketball program travels to Loyola Maryland on Saturday (Jan. 21). Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
BU seeks its first eight game winning streak since the 2011-12 season, and longest since joining the Patriot League before the 2013-14 campaign. The Terriers' current stretch is the second of its kind as a league member, after winning seven consecutive contests in 2019-20.
Loyola Maryland, meanwhile, hopes to stop a four-game slide and improve to .500 at home this year. The Greyhounds' last win at Reitz Arena came on Dec. 10, 2022.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU captured its seventh-consecutive win, defeating Navy at home, 84-41, on Jan. 18 to complete the season sweep of the Mids.
- The Terriers set a season-high in points scored, and had their largest margin of victory as a Patriot League team, and highest since 2008.
- Sophomore Alex Giannaros led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 8-for-9 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from three.
- Junior Caitlin Weimar tallied a 17-point, 13-rebound double-double.
- Seniors Maggie Pina and Maren Durant added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
- All seven of BU's league victories have been by 10 or more points. Eleven of the Terriers' 12 triumphs have been as well, with an average margin of victory of 21.2 points.
- The Terriers are one of 15 schools in that entered Friday with a perfect winning percentage in conference play while sporting seven or more wins.
- The last Patriot League team to start 8-0 in the league in a full, 18-game schedule was American in the 2017-18 season.
- The Terriers are averaging 70.4 points per game vs. the Patriot League. Opponents are scoring just 48.7 points per contest.
- Weimar's .563 field goal percentage leads the Patriot League. Against league foes, she is first with 11.7 rebounds per game and a .591 shooting percentage.
- Giannaros is 12-for-19 from three-point range in league action. She has five games this season making multiple threes while being perfect from beyond the arc.
- Thanks to her .656 three-point percentage this year, Giannaros is currently the program's leader in that category at 45.9 percent (min. 75 attempts). Senior Liz Shean is second at 42.9 percent, while Pina is tied for 11th at 35.4 percent.
- Senior Sydney Johnson enters Saturday's tilt eight points behind Jamie Nicholls '99 for 21st place on BU's all-time scoring list.
