Women's Ice Hockey Kicks Off Three-Game Homestand Friday vs. Merrimack

BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey starts a three-game homestand on Friday (Jan. 27) with a visit from Merrimack.

The teams split a home-and-home on Oct. 28-29 as the Terriers fell on the road, 5-2, before winning at home by the same score the following night.

BU enters the weekend just one point behind Maine for sixth place in the Hockey East standings.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • The Terriers are undeated in their past three games as they most recently won at UNH, 3-1, on Saturday following  shootout wins over No. 13 Providence and Maine.
  • BU has scored on five of its past seven power-play opportunities.
  • Senior Julia Nearis ranks first on the Terriers in points (18) and goals (9).
  • Junior Lacey Martin (5g, 9a) and senior Nadia Mattivi (4g, 10a) have 14 points each.
  • Sophomore Christina Vote (3g, 8a) has 11 points while freshmen Sydney Healey (4g, 6a) and Clara Yuhn (5g, 5a) each have 10.
  • Mattivi has one assist in six of the past seven games and is on a four-game point streak.
  • Graduate student Andrea Brändli was named to the HCA National Women's Goalie of the Year Watch List and ranks eighth in the nation in save percentage (.936).

HISTORY WITH THE WARRIORS

  • The Terriers are 14-3-5 against the Warriors over the last eight seasons, including a 7-1-3 record at Walter Brown Arena and a 6-2-2 mark at Lawler Rink.
  • BU is 9-1-5 in the past 15 meetings.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS

  • Merrimack is winless since the turn of the new year and is on a six-game losing streak.   
  • Most recently, the Warriors had a three-game homestand capped by a 5-1 loss to Holy Cross.
  • Senior Katie Kaufman leads the team in points (18) and goals (10) while sophomore Alexa Pongo has added 12 points on the strength of nine goals and three assists.
  • Merrimack has the second-highest penalty minutes per game average in the nation at 9.85.
  • Freshman Calli Hogarth and senior Emma Gorksi have shared time in goal and Hogarth holds the edge in goals-against average (2.83 - 3.48) and save percentage (.919 - .891).
