Men's Soccer Falls at Lafayette, 2-0

EASTON, Pa. – The Boston University men's soccer team saw its seven-game unbeaten streak snapped by Lafayette in a 2-0 defeat Saturday afternoon at Oaks Stadium.

With its first conference loss of the year, the Terriers fall to 7-3-3 (4-1-1 PL), while the Leopards improve to 7-4-3 (4-1-1 PL).

Hale Lombard played a part in both goals for Lafayette, first launching a long throw-in to set up Nicholas Liebich's header in the 35th minute and then heading in a free kick from Connor Dawson five minutes later.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Francesco Montali earned his first save in the seventh minute on a low shot from Lawrence Aydlett.
  • The Terriers successfully defended against three corners between 10:21-11:53.
  • Senior Eitan Rosen sent BU's first shot attempt wide right at 25:14.
  • The Leopards struck first at 34:43 when Liebich headed Lombard's long throw up in the air and then headed it over a leaping Montali toward the left post.
  • After graduate student Colin Innes went wide left in the 37th minute, Lombard doubled the Leopards' lead at 39:43 by heading in Dawson's angled free kick into the box from 30 yards out.
  • Lafayette almost added a third goal in the 48th minute with a header off a free kick and the ensuing rebound shot attempt, but the backline blocked both attempts.
  • Junior Kevin Torres' attempt was blocked at 63:47, and freshman Jason Zacarias sent the rebound shot wide right.
  • Innes forced a save by Griffin Huff at 76:20.
  • BU earned its first corner in the 83rd minute but was unable to get off a shot in its third shutout loss of the fall.
