Terriers Fall to No. 17 Cornell in Non-Conference Finale

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Boston University field hockey team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 6-0 loss at No. 17 Cornell on Sunday afternoon at Marsha Dodson Field.

The Terriers now stand at 8-8 on the year while the Big Red improves to 12-3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cornell scored three times in each half to earn the win on its Senior Day.
  • Senior Caroline Ramsey had a hat trick with three drag-flick goals off corners.
  • Ramsey opened the scoring at the 7:38 mark and added another just over 11 minutes later.
  • Hanke Govaert pushed the Big Red's lead to 3-0 when she took a pass in the circle and snuck a shot inside the right post in the 24th minute.
  • Early in the third quarter, a shot attempt by Cornell's Rease Coleman that was not on goal went off the stick of a BU defender and in to push the lead to 4-0.
  • Ramsey completed her hat trick off a corner in the 39th minute.
  • Grace Leahy capped the scoring in the final minute of the third quarter. 
GAME NOTES
  • Cornell held a 14-4 shot advantage and earned 10 corners while allowing two.
  • Senior Kate Thomason made five saves and freshman Sophie Ortyl played the final 9:50 in goal and made her first collegiate save.
  • Martha Broderick stopped both shots she saw in goal for the Big Red and Lexie Hausheer took over with 5:11 remaining and closed out the shutout.
  • Julia Ramsey had three assists on the day for the Big Red.
  • It was the first time the two programs had faced off since the first-ever meeting back in 1987, which was a neutral-site win by the Terriers.
UP NEXT
  • BU will close out the regular season on Saturday (Oct. 28) when it hosts American on Senior Day.
  • Game time is set for noon.
