BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer team is set to take on Lafayette this Saturday (Oct. 7). Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Nickerson Field.
BU (5-4-3, 2-1-1 PL) returns to Terrier Town following a two-game road swing, playing its first game on Comm. Ave. since Sept. 20. The Terriers are 4-2-1 at home this year, with four of their next five games taking place at Nickerson Field.
Lafayette (6-4-1, 2-2-0 PL) competes in its first road match since Sept. 20. The Leopards seek their first win since Sept. 20, having gone 0-2-1 since.
The contest will be the second leg of a back to back at Nickerson Field between the Men's and Women's teams as a part of Soc'toberfest and Youth Day. Fans can enjoy a cash bar, free food, including cider donuts, wings, and sliders, a plastic stein giveaway, and more. Gates open at 12 p.m. with the men's soccer team vs. Navy at 1 p.m. Admission is free for all fans.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers come off a 3-2 victory against Navy last Sunday (Oct. 1).
- Senior Abigail McNulty, making her first appearance since Aug. 20, scored her second goal of the match to put the Terriers ahead in the 85th minute.
- Sophomore Giuliana Gianino also scored in the contest, her team-leading fourth of the season.
- For their efforts, McNulty and Gianino were named the Patriot League Offensive Player and Midfielder of the Week, respectively, for the week of Oct. 2.
- McNulty was also named an honorable mention for the TopDrawerSoccer Women's Team of the Week.
- Junior goalkeeper Celia Braun started her 12th match of the season, recording two saves. She is now two stops away from surpassing Amanda Fay for seventh place in program history in career saves.
- Since 2021, and including the postseason, the Terriers are 12-2-2 during October. Under Head Coach Casey Brown's tutelage, BU is 7-2.
- The Terriers are currently tied for second in the Patriot League with a 2-1-1 record and seven points. Loyola Maryland (12 points) paces the conference, with American (seven points) tied with the Terriers.
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
- Lafayette is 6-4-1 on the season, coming off a 2-0 loss against American last Saturday (Sept. 30).
- The Leopards are fourth in the Patriot League with a 2-2 record and six points, one behind BU and American.
- Lafayette is 2-3 on the road this season.
- Senior Sara Oswald and freshman Nadia Zaffanella are tied for the team lead in goals with four each.
- Lindsay Dewar has started in all 10 of her matches, recording a 1.00 goals-against average and .831 save percentage.
- Lafayette was projected to finish ninth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll after tallying a 3-11-3 (1-6-2 PL) record in 2022.
SERIES HISTORY
- Saturday marks the 12th all-time meeting between BU and Lafayette in a series that dates back to 2013.
- The Terriers are 9-1-1 in the rivalry, having taken the last two contests against the Leopards.
- The Terriers secured a 2-1 victory the last time Lafayette visited Nickerson Field on Sept. 18, 2021 thanks to Amy Thompson's second-half brace.
- The two sides met once last season, with the Terriers taking the contest 2-1 in Easton, Pa. Trailing 1-0 at the break, Morgan Fagan and Thompson found the back of the net less than four minutes apart in the second half.
