Women’s Basketball Heads To Rider For Saturday Tilt

BOSTON – The Boston University women's basketball programs takes part in its 2023-24 road opener, visiting Rider on Saturday (Nov. 18). Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
 
BU (3-0) comes off a 2022-23 campaign where it went 10-6 away from home. Last season, the Terriers shot nearly 43 percent from the field in road contests, and averaged 38.7 rebounds per game.
 
Rider (1-2) won its first home matchup back on Nov. 12, a 61-47 decision over Merrimack. Three of the Broncs' next four games take place at Alumni Gymnasium.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS

  • Senior Caitlin Weimar tallied a 22-point, 12-rebound double-double to pace the Terriers, and made her 300th field goal in a BU uniform.
  • Junior Alex Giannaros collected 12 points, four boards, three assists, and three steals.
  • Sophomores Anastasiia Semenova and Anete Adler each scored seven points off the bench.
  • The Terriers have started 4-0 in four previous seasons, the last instance being in 2020-21. The last time BU accomplished the feat against non-conference opponents was 1994-95.
  • The program record for consecutive wins to open a season is eight, set in 1978-79.
  • BU has won all three of its games scoring 60 or fewer points. The Terriers only won two such games in all of last year.
  • Entering Friday (Nov. 17), BU's 52.7 points allowed per game is a Patriot League-best.
SCOUTING RIDER
  • The Broncs are 1-2 to begin the year, most recently dropping a 70-57 contest at NJIT on Wednesday (Nov. 15).
  • Rider fell to Saint Joseph's, who BU faces on Dec. 5, on the road, 71-49. The Broncs square off against fellow Patriot League foe Lehigh on Dec. 30.
  • Graduate student Taylor Langan, a transfer from Colgate, leads the Broncs with 13 points and eight rebounds per game.
  • Preseason Second Team All-MAAC selection Mikayla Firebaugh also averages double figures with 10.7 points per contest.
  • Rider is projected to finish 10th in the MAAC preseason poll after a 10-21 campaign in 2022-23, where the Broncs advanced to the conference quarterfinals.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday is the first all-time meeting between BU and Rider.
  • The Broncs are the first of two programs the Terriers face for the first time. BU's next game against Le Moyne is the other.
  • BU last faced a MAAC school on Nov. 8, 2019, playing Marist.
  • The Terriers' last win against a MAAC school was against Monmouth on Nov. 24, 2013.
