Terriers Conclude Homestand with David Hemery Valentine Invite

February 12, 2023

BOSTON – The Boston University men's track & field team closed its home slate in front of a packed crowd at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday. Two Terriers, senior Foster Malleck and sophomore Ryan Rosenberger, made appearances on the Top-10 Terrier list at the meet.

Malleck competed in a mile that featured a field of 432 runners, 52 of which ran sub-four minute times. Malleck was one of those athletes and ran a personal best time of 3:59.18 to secure the third-fastest mark in program history. He is the first Terrier to crack the sub-four minute mile category this season. Notably, grad student Aksel Laudon set a personal best in the event with a 4:01.32 and now owns the eighth-fastest time in program history.

In the long jump, Rosenberger cracked the Top-10 Terrier list. He jumped 7.12m (23' 4.5") to place fifth at the meet and secure the 10th-best jump in BU history. No one in program history has set a top-10 mark on the men's side in the event since David Oluwadara (7.4m (24' 3.5")) set the second-best jump in 2016.

Freshman Michael Onilogbo competed in the 60m dash prelims and placed second with a time of 6.82. He advanced to the finals in which he placed fourth with a time of 6.83.

Onilogbo also led BU in the 200m dash (21.69) with a 17th-place finish. Additional Terriers competing in the event were sophomore Matthew Spicer (22.15) and Samuel Roszak (22.21).

In the shot put, grad student Fred Lu led the BU men with a throw of 14.82m (48' 7.5"), good for 13th. Junior Sam Dennerlein also competed and threw 14.40m (47' 3") for 19th.

The Terriers will be back in action for the Patriot League Championships which will take place on Sat., Feb. 25 and Sun., Feb. 26. Navy hosts this year's conference championship.
