Men, Women Place Second at Patriot League Track & Field Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams finished second at the Patriot League Championships on Sunday. In the result, BU took home nine Patriot League Titles and made 12 separate podium appearances. 
 
The men's second-place finish is its best since 2016. It is also the women's best finish since 2017. BU scored 137 points on the men's side and 146 points on the women's side. Navy took first on both sides with 256 points for the men and 214.5 points for the women, while Army West Point took third on both sides. In addition to the second-place finish, freshman Logan Popelka was named the rookie of the meet. 
 
BU's first individual title of the meet went to grad student Kasim Cisse who competed in the high jump. He cleared 2.08m (6' 9.75"), tying his own personal best mark, to take the win. The Terriers completed the high jump sweep with sophomore Asia Hamilton earning the title on the women's side. She cleared 1.73m (5' 8") to take first.
 
Another sweep for BU came in the 60m dashes. Freshman Jada Smith ran a 7.54 on her way to first as the lone Terrier to compete on the women's side. For the men, junior Dakota Jackson ran a 6.80 for the title and was closely followed by fellow sophomore Leon Christian (6.85) who took second.
 
BU's final sweep of the day came in the 400m dash. Popelka set a meet and facility record with a time of 46.87 which is the third-fastest time in program history. Grad student Emma Montoya won the title on the women's side with a 53.52 to set a meet and facility record. Senior Noelani Phillips came in second in the event with a 55.24.
 
In the women's 800m race, grad student Meghan Convery ran a 2:09.17 to place first and set the fifth-fastest time in program history. On the men's side, grad student Aksel Laudon also reached the podium with a time of 1:52.52, good for third.
 
Phillips earned a title in the 200m dash with a time of 23.94. Not only is that the second fastest time in school history, but she topped her own meet and facility record that she set on Saturday. Also on the podium for BU in the event was Popelka (21.48) who took third on the men's side.
 
The final gold medal of the day went to the women's 4x400m team. Phillips, junior Isabela Shepard, Smith and Montoya ran a 3:44.22 to take the title and record the fourth-fastest time in program history.
 
Senior Foster Malleck was first on the day to medal for BU, running to second place in the mile with a time of 4:08.24. Freshman Parker Schneider notably finished fourth with a time of 4:12.26.
 
Hamilton also medaled in the triple jump. The sophomore jumped 12.26m (40' 2/75") to take second place and record the sixth-best jump in program history.
 
Sophomore Gabe Hickman led BU in the shot put. He threw for 16.31m (53' 6.25") to place third. Right behind him was fellow sophomore Cole Tucker, who placed fourth (16.27m (53' 4.5")).
 
In the women's 3,000m race, sophomore Daisy Liljegren earned her second medal of the meet. She placed third with a time of 9:37.61. Not far behind was grad student Veronica Kriss (9:44.11) who placed fifth.
 
Another men's relay reached the podium in the men's distance medley relay. Grad student Marcel Aubry, Laudon, junior Max Gorriaran and freshman Parker Schneider ran a 9:56.98 to place second. 
 
Additionally, the men's 4x400m reached the podium, placing third with a time of 3:15.75. Freshman Liam Gair, Gorriaran, junior Ryan Rosenberger and Christian were the ones on the team.
 
Also medaling for BU were sophomore Steven Franco and junior Stuart Bladon. They went second and third, respectively, in the men's heptathlon. Franco scored 5118 points to set a school record in the event and Bladon earned 5098 points for the second-best all-time performance.
 
In the men's hurdles, junior Uchenna Nwosu also reached the podium. He ran an 8.04 to place second in the event.
