BOSTON – The Boston University men's lacrosse team upped its win streak to three on Saturday, using a 6-0 run in the second half to post a 14-8 victory over Colgate in its home opener at Nickerson Field.
Trailing 5-2 with four minutes left in the second quarter, the Terriers scored nine of the game's next 10 goals to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Vince D'Alto (5g, 1a) and graduate student
Timmy Ley (3g, 2a) combined for 11 points to help the Terriers improve to 3-1 on the season and start off their Patriot League schedule with a victory.

Tommy Bourque had a four-point afternoon with two goals and two assists while senior
Thomas Niedringhaus found the back of the net twice. Senior
Roy Meyer and graduate student
Jake Cates added one goal apiece.

Conor Calderone had a game-high nine ground balls thanks to a 16-of-22 performance on faceoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colgate scored the game's first two goals before Cates got BU on the board in the closing seconds of the first quarter to make it a 2-1 contest.
- Bourque tied the game at 2-2 early in the second quarter off a feed from Ley.
- The visitors responded with a three-goal run as Jack Turner completed a first-half hat trick to give Colgate a 5-2 cushion.
- The Terriers came right back to draw even before halftime as Niedringhaus started the comeback before D'Atlo scored the final two goals of the opening half.
- Colgate got the lead back at 6-5 on a goal by Ryan Favaro but that proved to be its last advantage of the contest as the Terriers embarked on the decisive 6-0 run.
- D'Alto tied the game with an unassisted tally and then gave BU the lead for good with 7:38 remaining in the third off senior Anthony Forziati's first career assist.
- Niedringhaus gave the Terriers their first multi-goal cushion at 8-6 before Ley closed out the third-quarter scoring with a man-up tally that was assisted by sophomore Jimmy O'Connell.
- The fourth quarter started with a goal in transition from the long pole of Meyer, pushing the BU lead to 10-6.
- The six-goal spurt was completed with 12:17 left in the game on an unassisted goal from Ley, creating an 11-6 advantage.
- Colgate ended the BU run with its second man-up goal of the contest but the Terriers ended the Raiders' hopes for a comeback by getting the game's next three goals from D'Alto, Ley and Bourque.
GAME NOTES
- BU held a 39-38 edge in shots and each team committed 18 turnovers.
- Graduate student Matt Garber stopped half of the shots on goal he faced, making eight saves in the victory.
- Matt Lacombe recorded 11 saves in goal for the Raiders.
- The Terriers won 16 of the game's 26 faceoffs.
- Colgate had a 41-32 advantage in ground balls.
- BU was 17-of-25 on clears while the Raiders were 15-of-19.
- Colgate converted on two of their five extra-man opportunities and BU was 1-of-2.
