BOSTON - Competing in its first Patriot League Tournament as the No. 1 seed, the Boston University women's basketball program begins its quest for its first Patriot League title, hosting No. 9 Loyola Maryland in the quarterfinal round on Monday (March 6). Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
BU enters the 2023 edition of the postseason with its fourth-straight appearance as a top-three seed, and seventh total quarterfinal appearance in 10 seasons as a league member. The Terriers are 5-2 at home in the Patriot League Tournament, and will host every game in which they will appear.
Loyola Maryland aims for a second-straight year where the top seed is eliminated in the quarterfinals after Navy prevailed over Holy Cross in 2022. The Greyhounds dispatched the Mids in the opening round on Saturday (March 4), and seek their first semifinal appearance since 2016.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is 5-8 all-time in the Patriot League Tournament. In conference championships, the Terriers are 36-32.
- With a win, The Terriers would reach the Patriot League semifinal round for the fourth time in as many years (this includes the 2020 tournament that was later canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
- The Terriers captured the 2022-23 Patriot League regular season championship, its first in 10 seasons as a league member, with a 17-1 league record, becoming the third PL program to reach 17 conference wins.
- Last week, four student-athletes received All-Patriot League honors, sharing the league lead with the Crusaders.
- Junior Caitlin Weimar was tabbed the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, while Head Coach Melissa Graves was named Coach of the Year.

- The Terriers closed the regular season leading the Patriot League in shooting percentage (.459), field goal percentage defense (.367), three-point percentage (.392), scoring margin (+11.6), rebounding average (38.0), and blocks per game (4.7).
- Johnson needs four more field goals to enter the top 10 for career baskets made in program history, and four more points to tie Katie Meinhardt '07 for 11th place on the all-time scoring list.
- Durant is one rebound shy of fifth place in the Terrier annals, and four from 800 in her career.
SCOUTING LOYOLA MARYLAND
- The ninth-seeded Greyhounds scored their first Patriot League Tournament win since 2019 with a 61-52 triumph at No. 8 Lafayette on Mar. 4.
- With the victory, Loyola captured its first 10-win season since the 2016-17 campaign.
- Devyne Newman scored a career-high 17 points in the win over the Leopards, while Lex Therien dropped 17 points with a career-high 21 rebounds.
- Therien, a Second Team All-Patriot League recipient this year, has already set the Greyhounds single-season rebounding record, and averages 15.6 points and 11.1 caroms per contest.
- Taleah Dixon records 13.7 points per game for Loyola.
SERIES HISTORY
- Monday marks the 20th all-time meeting between BU and Loyola Maryland in a series that began in 2014.
- The Terriers have won six in a row to take a 13-6 lead in the series.
- The matchup marks the first between the two in the Patriot League Quarterfinals, and second in the tournament.
- In 2014, BU's first season as a league member, the Terriers won 40-35 over the Greyhounds to secure its first Patriot League Tournament victory.
- The Terriers are 7-3 all-time at home against Loyola, having won three in a row.
- BU swept the regular season series with a 65-57 road win on Jan. 21 and a 100-57 rout in Terrier Town on Feb. 4.
- In the first meeting, Johnson scored 15 of her team-high 21 points in the second half. The win was BU's first under 10 points against a Patriot League foe on the year.
- The second meeting marked BU's third-ever 100-point game, and first since 1987. Johnson's 20 points led four Terrier in double figures, as BU drained a program record-tying 16 three-pointers.
