IRVINE, Calif. – The Boston University men's tennis team started its week-long visit to the Golden State with a 7-0 loss at UC Irvine on Monday afternoon.
Coming off a 6-1 win over Army West Point, the Anteaters (3-6) picked up their second consecutive victory against the Patriot League by outlasting the Terriers (7-7) in a pair of doubles matches and capturing all six singles points, including five in straight sets.
UC Irvine started with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles and then held off junior
Jonah Dickson and sophomore
Cole Knutsen in the No. 2 slot, 6-4. The Anteaters then broke late against sophomore
Dion Loutas and junior
Jose Maria Robalino at line 3 to complete the sweep, 7-5
Knutsen rallied from a set down to force a super tiebreaker at No. 3 singles but ultimately came up just short, 6-4, 6-7(2), 10-6. Junior
Johann Sajonz won the second most games for the Terriers in a 7-6(6), 6-2 loss in the No. 6 slot.
The Terriers will next visit UC Riverside on Wednesday (March 8) for a 12 p.m. ET start.
