CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The No. 2 Boston University lightweight rowing program had six entries post top-three finishes in their respective finals on the last day of the Knecht Cup on Sunday (April 16) at Cooper River Park.
After all eight crews advanced to the finals on Saturday, BU had two additional entries in the Lightweight 4 and Lightweight 8 categories, winning both events. The Terriers also medaled in the Women's Double, Second Varsity 4, and Varsity 8 to wrap the regatta.
Sunday's action started with the Double, where BU had four of the six boats. The "B" crew of
Kylie Lough and
Alanna Hoffman paced the Terriers with a second-place finish in 8:09.37, just over two seconds ahead of Harvard-Radcliffe. The "A" entry featuring
Caroline Burchette and
Savanna Jacovini earned the bronze in a time of 8:14.93.
BU mixed up its Varsity 4 crew for the Lightweight 4 event, with
Rayna Kuthiala as the coxswain and
Nina Palmer in the stroke seat. The Terriers won gold, crossing the finish line in 7:49.87 to beat out crews from MIT, Radcliffe, and Iona.
In the Second Varsity 4 final, the Terriers, coxed by
Mayela Gaol and stroked by Jacovini, went toe-to-toe with Duquesne, and finished second in 8:08.26, two seconds behind the Dukes.
The Varsity 4 Grand Final featured Kuthiala on the coxswain and
Kieran Purandare in the stroke seat. BU clocked in at 7:57.08 for a fifth-place result.
BU's Varsity 8 competed in the Lightweight 8 event before its final race. Coxed by
Heather Shinn and stroked by
Delaney Bernier, the Terriers won with a time of 6:47.87, defeating Radcliffe and MIT in a rematch of last week's Beanpot. That crew went on to earn bronze in the V8 two hours later, crossing the finish line in 6:56.39.
The Terriers are idle until the Eastern Sprints, competing on Sunday (April 30) on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
