JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Boston University lightweight rowing program had eight Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association's (CRCA) Scholar-Athletes recognized for 2023, the organization announced on July 21.
To qualify, an athlete must meet both academic and athletic requirements, such as being in at least their second year of eligibility and maintaining an average cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. Additionally, student-athletes must have rowed in their institution's NCAA or IRA (lightweight) eligible boats for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or race in an NCAA Boat at their conference championship/NCAA championship.
BU's eight scholar-athletes are an improvement from the six selected in 2022. Seven awardees this year earn the distinction for the first time in their rowing careers. Rising senior
Kieran Purandare receives the distinction for the second time in her Terrier tenure.
Overall, 1,000-plus student-athletes representing 111 institutions in Divisions I, II, III, and Lightweight have earned 2023 CRCA Scholar-Athlete honors.
