Terriers Edged by Ohio, 2-1

ORONO, Maine - The Boston University field hockey team dropped a 2-1 contest to Ohio on Saturday afternoon in a neutral-site game at the Maine Field Hockey Complex.

Ohio scored both of its goals in the opening 10 minutes and sophomore Caroline O'Brien got BU on the board late in the third quarter with her first collegiate goal.

BU moves to 1-2 on the year while the Bobcats are now an even 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ohio earned three quick corners in the fourth minute and scored on the last of them to take an early lead.
  • Katelyn Whittle converted from the top of the circle on assists from Anouk Plaehn and Weslee Littlefield at the 4:00 mark.
  • Whittle added her second goal of the contest just over five minutes later to push the lead to 2-0.
  • BU had the only shot on goal of the second quarter but junior Tegan Poerio's attempt was stopped by Ohio netminder Macy Lotze.
  • The Terriers got on the board in the 43rd minute when O'Brien corralled a pass from sophomore Natalie Epperson near the right post and pushed the ball to the far boards.
  • BU dominated play for the remainder of the contest and earned four corners in the fourth quarter but could not come up with an equalizer.

GAME NOTES
  • BU outshot Ohio in each of the final three quarters and held a 9-8 advantage for the game.
  • The Terriers had seven corners to the Bobcats' six and did not allow one for the final 44 minutes of the contest.
  • Epperson's assist was her first collegiate point.
  • Senior Kate Thomason made two saves in goal for the Terriers while Lotze recorded three in the Ohio cage.
  • BU has five goals this season and they have been scored by five different players.

  • BU will return to action on Friday (Sept. 8) when it hosts crosstown rival Boston College.
  • Game time is set for 6 p.m.
