LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Boston University men's swimming & diving team earned its first win over Bucknell in six seasons, posting a 157.5-140.5 road triumph over the Bison on Saturday afternoon at
Kinney Natatorium.
Freshman
Giovanni Sullo (500 free, 1000 free), sophomore
Jonny Farber (100 back, 200 back) and senior
Justin Liao (100 breast, 200 breast) earned two wins apiece.
Sophomores
Zein Mahana (1-meter dive),
Jonathan Tsang (200 fly) and senior
Jed Tan (100 fly) also earned a win.
After winning the 400-yard individual medley and 200 butterfly in last weekend's season opener, Sullo competed in the distance freestyle races against Bucknell and took both, winning the 1000 in 9:35.48 and the 500 in 4:35.40.
Farber swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 in 52.03 before finishing first in the 200 in 1:51.06, and Liao took the breaststroke events with a 57.62 in the 100 and a 2:07.86 in the 200.
Mahana posted a winning score of 295.50 in the 1-meter competition and added a runner-up finish in the 3-meter with a score of 286.58.
The butterfly events were both won by Terriers as Tan won the 100 in 50.89 and Tsang claimed first in the 200 in a time of 1:52.92.
Junior
Tony Ponomarev took second behind Farber in both backstroke races, posting a 52.13 in the 100 before recording a time of 1:54.55 in the 200.
Freshmen
Abraham Lee (50 free, 21.35) and
Diego Rosario (100 fly, 51.16) each recorded runner-up finishes.
With BU up 12 points heading into the final race, the 400 freestyle relay took first place by .77 seconds to claim the team victory as freshman

BU will return to action next Saturday (Oct. 26) when it visits Army West Point. The diving competitions will start at 10 a.m while the swimming events will kick off at 11:30 a.m.
