BOSTON – After recognizing the nine-member senior class, the Boston University men's soccer team will face American in the home regular season finale Saturday at 1 p.m.
With only three games remaining and the Patriot League standings jam packed, both the Terriers and Eagles will be after three points. BU is currently atop the standings with Bucknell at 11 pts., just one ahead of the Eagles, Loyola Maryland and Lehigh.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- Thanks to a 1-0 win over Bucknell back on Oct. 12, the Terriers are riding a 20-game active home unbeaten streak (14-0-6) at Nickerson Field against the Patriot League.
- BU is 2-1-5 at home with conference wins against the Bison and Army West Point (3-2). The other PL contest with Lafayette finished in a 1-1 draw.
- Sophomore Andrea Di Blasio owns a team-high four goals and nine points with three scores ending up as game winners, including last Saturday's successful penalty kick at Colgate.
- Junior Quin DeLaMater is second on the team at six points (2g,2a) with classmate, Damola Salami, in third at five points (2g,1a).
- Making a team-high seven starts at net, graduate student Andrew Wike has collected all three shutouts this fall following his two-save performance against the Raiders.
- Wike, junior Ben Alexander and junior Sheraz Saadat have combined for a .701 save percentage and 1.43 goals against average.
- Opponents are averaging 1.4 more shots per game (9.7-8.3) with a 73-43 advantage in corner kicks.
SCOUTING AMERICAN
- The Eagles are 1-3-3 on the road this year after going 1-2-1 during its most recent four-game road trip. American battled then-No. 23 VCU to a 1-1 draw, dropped a 4-2 decision at Virginia, fell at Lehigh (3-1) and posted a 2-1 win at Army.
- AU previously earned conference victories at home against Loyola Maryland (2-0) and Lafayette (1-0).
- Troy Elgersma leads AU with nine points off two goals and five assists, while Sam Hershey owns three goals alongside an assist for seven points.
- Matthew Tibbetts has played every second at goal, posting a .730 save percentage and 1.43 goals against average.
- Opponents are averaging 2.6 more shots per game (12.6-10.0) with a 66-53 lead in corner kicks.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers lead the all-time series, 6-3-2, thanks to an active six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1).
- Last year, BU earned a 2-1 victory in Washington, D.C.
