Sheraz Saadat's three saves, the Boston University men's soccer team rallied to earn a 1-1 draw against Harvard Tuesday night at Nickerson Field.
With their second consecutive tie, the Terriers move to 1-3-8, while the Crimson now sit at 1-4-4 after striking first at 48:03. Bone netted the equalizer for his second goal of the year, while both seniors
Aidan Holmes and
Andrew Soczynski claimed their first career assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Saadat earned his first save in the 11th minute when he came up to block a quick attempt from Dylan Tellado.
- One minute later, Bone flicked a cross over the bar for BU's first shot attempt.
- The Terriers earned their first corner at 19:39, but the Crimson were able to get the clear.
- Harvard followed up with a pair of corners that the Terriers were able to successfully defend against to maintain a scoreless deadlock entering the locker room.
- The Crimson scored the game's first goal at 48:03 when goalie Cullen MacNeil played a long pass from his box to the other side of the field for Ben Kelly to head onward to Xavier Tanyi, who quickly took a 25-yard shot past Saadat for the 1-0 lead.
- Saadat made a leaping stop in the 51st minute and helped the backline defend against the ensuing Crimson corner kick.
- Saadat made his last save at 70:14 and watched the offense net the equalizer at 83:01.
- Holmes sent a cross from the left side of the field to Soczynski, who made a centering one-touch pass to Bone for the quick shot and 1-1 score.
- Junior John Roman had a header shot go over the crossbar at 85:51, and the Terriers cleared a Harvard corner two minutes later to seal the draw.
GAME NOTES
- Bone became the fourth Terrier this season to earn multiple goals this season.
- With Holmes and Soczynski both earning an assist, BU now has 11 Terriers with at least one helper and 14 total with at least one point.
- BU has had multiple Terriers assist on a goal four times out of 14 scores.
- The Terriers set a program record for ties in a season at eight total, surpassing the seven earned in 2022. BU is one away from tying the NCAA record owned by six teams, including the 2022 Navy and Fordham squads.
- Despite Harvard owning a 4-2 advantage in corners, the Terriers edged the Crimson in shots, 6-5, with Saadat earning all three saves recorded in the contest.
- Saadat was the only Terrier to play all 90 minutes, as 10 men came off the bench throughout the contest for BU.
- With the second consecutive tie between the two programs, Harvard now leads the series, 28-17-10. The teams last ended regulation deadlock in back-to-back season in 2012-13 and last had consecutive draws in 1999-2000.
