Women’s Basketball Opens Homestand Against Maine on Thursday

BOSTON – Igniting a three-game homestand, the Boston University women's basketball program welcomes former America East rival Maine to Case Gym on Thursday (Nov. 21). Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
 
BU (1-2) will begin its longest homestand of the 2024-25 season. Under fourth year head coach Melissa Graves, the Terriers are 41-9 at The Roof.
 
Maine (2-2) starts a stretch where five of its next six games are on the road. The Black Bears last won their first two road games on a season in 2020.
 
Fans attending the game can partake in a Raising Cane's tailgate on West Campus leading up to tip-off. In addition, Thursday's game airs on ESPN+ with Brian Maurer (COM'07), Jack Hughes and Caitlin Beal on the call. Live statistics and an audio-only stream are available through GoTerriers.com, while the Patriot League will provide an international stream.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • In its last game, BU dropped a 69-60 road contest to New Hampshire on Saturday (Nov. 16).
  • Senior Alex Giannaros became the 27th Terrier in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points with a three-pointer in the fourth quarter.
  • Sophomore Aoibhe Gormley led the Terriers with 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting.
  • Classmate Sisi Bentley drained nine free throws en route to a career high 11 points.
  • In her first appearance in 26 games, junior Anete Adler hit the hardwood for the first time since Dec. 5, 2023. She chipped in nine points.
  • Ranking 20th in Division I with 3.3 triples per game, Giannaros needs just one three-pointer to gain sole possession of sixth place in program history in career threes.
  • BU has won 12 of its last 13 regular season home contests, and 24 of its last 26.
  • At the foul line, the Terriers are 36-for-46 across their three games. That .783 percentage is good for 32nd in the nation. 
SCOUTING MAINE
  • Maine is 2-2 on the season, most recently falling to Harvard, 83-41.
  • The Black Bears' wins this year have occurred against A-10 foes La Salle (65-51 on Nov. 4) and Rhode Island (57-53 on Nov. 13).
  • Three Black Bears are scoring in double digits, led by Caroline Bornemann's 13.5 points per game.
  • Sarah Talon (12.8 points on 59.4 percent shooting) and Paula Gallego (12.5 points per game on 55.6 percent shooting) also score in double figures.
  • Maine was projected to finish first in the America East preseason poll, earning five first-place votes.
  • Last season, the Black Bears captured their 10th America East championship after going 14-2 in conference play and 24-10 overall, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

  • Thursday marks the 75th all-time meeting between BU and Maine in a series that began in 1977.
