BOSTON – Facing its sixth top-10 program since the start of the 2003-04 season, the Boston University women's basketball team visits No. 2 UConn for its 2024-25 road opener on Thursday (Nov. 7). Opening tip from the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. is set for 7 p.m.
BU (1-0) seeks its third win over a ranked opponent in program history, and plays its first top-five foe since the Huskies themselves were No. 1 back in 2013. Last year, the Terriers went 5-10 on the road.
UConn takes part in its 2024-25 lid-lifter after recently defeating Fort Hays State 89-49 in an exhibition contest. The Huskies are 33-3 all-time against Patriot League opponents, and will face off against BU since the Terriers joined the conference ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.
Thursday's game airs on television through SportsNet New York (SNY). UConn's SNY games will be available to stream in-market (CT, NY, NJ, PA) to authenticated subscribers via the SNY app.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU opened its season with a 60-48 victory over another Huskies team, Northeastern, on Monday (Nov. 4) at Case Gym.
- The Terriers went wire-to-wire after scoring on their opening possession, and held the Huskies to 1-of-16 shooting from beyond the arc.
- Senior Alex Giannaros dropped a game-high 23 points, hitting eight of her 12 shots and five three-pointers.
- Sophomore Aoibhe Gormley collected eight points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
- Freshmen Allison Schwertner and Inez Gallegos appeared in the starting lineup, marking the second straight year BU trotted out two rookies in the starting five in a season opener. Gormley and classmate Audrey Ericksen did so in 2023.
- Eleven of the 13 Terriers that played against Northeastern were either freshmen or sophomores.
- Giannaros currently sits at 986 career points, needing 14 to become the 27th Terrier in program history to record 1,000 points in the scarlet & white.
- She is also five three-pointers away from reaching sixth place on BU's all-time list, and seven assists from 200 in her collegiate career.
- The Terriers are playing a top-10 ranked opponent for the second straight year. In 2023, BU visited No. 7 Colorado and trailed the Buffaloes by just four points entering the fourth quarter.
- BU's last win over a ranked foe came on Dec. 1, 2012 against No. 17/15 St. John's, a 66-49 score.
SCOUTING UCONN
- The Huskies finished last year with a 33-6 overall record, advancing to the Women's Final Four before falling to eventual runner-up Iowa.
- UConn was picked to win the BIG EAST in 2024-25. Six Huskies garnered BIG EAST preseason honors, including Paige Bueckers and Sarah Strong as the Preseason Player and Freshman of the Year, respectively.
- Bueckers and Azzi Fudd were named to the Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year watchlist. The former also earned a spot on the Nancy Lieberman Award watchlist, while Fudd was selected to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watchlist. Strong was a recipient on the watchlist for the 2025 Cheryl Miller Award.
- Head coach Geno Auriemma, an 11-time NCAA champion at the helm, is in his 40th season.
SERIES HISTORY
- Thursday marks the 13th all-time meeting between BU and UConn in a series that began in 1978.
- The Huskies sport an 8-4 edge in the rivalry, having won six in a row and seven of the last eight.
- BU's last win against UConn came on Feb. 9, 1984, a 70-47 victory.
- The Terriers are 1-5 on the road against the Huskies. The only win came in the first meeting on Dec. 9, 1978, a 75-60 triumph.
- BU squared off against UConn in its lone NCAA Tournament game back on Mar. 23, 2003.
- UConn was ranked first in the country the last time the two programs faced off back on Nov. 22, 2013, a 96-38 Huskies victory. Clodagh Scannell paced BU with nine points. Breanna Stewart led UConn with 25 points, while Stefanie Dolson dropped 23 points and 10 rebounds.
- BU assistant coach Jason Pellum earned his degree from UConn in 2016, and was a practice player for the UConn women's team during their national championship season that year.
