Women’s Basketball Heads To Navy For Saturday Showdown

BOSTON – With just six games remaining in the regular season, the Boston University women's basketball program travels to Navy for a key Patriot League contest on Saturday (Feb. 17). Opening tip is set for 3:30 p.m.
 
BU (14-9, 6-6 PL) looks for its first road win since Jan. 6, having dropped its last six tilts away from home. However, the average scoring margin in that streak is just 6.8 points. The Terriers are currently tied with Lehigh and Bucknell for fifth place in the Patriot League standings.
 
Navy (9-14, 5-7 PL) enters the weekend tied with Colgate for eighth in the conference table. Eight of the Mids' nine victories this season have taken place at Alumni Hall.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU snapped its three-game losing streak with a 72-64 victory over Army West Point on Wednesday (Feb. 14) at Case Gym.
  • The Terriers made 54 percent of their shots while tallying a season-high 29 bench points.
  • Senior Caitlin Weimar filled the stat sheet with 22 points, seven blocks, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
  • Senior Kelsi Mingo and freshman Inés Monteagudo Pardo each buried a trio of three-pointers for 11 points.
  • In its last three games, BU has hit 42.6 percent of its three-pointers, boosting its league-leading .368 three-point percentage to 21st in the nation.
  • During the last four matchups, Mingo is 13-for-21 from deep, good for nearly 62 percent. Junior Alex Giannaros is 9-for-19 at a .473 clip.
  • BU shoots better from distance on the road compared to at home, making 37.6 percent of its triples compared to 36.2 percent at home.
  • In the win over the Black Knights, Weimar collected her 500th collegiate field goal. She is four rebounds away from 900 in her career.
  • With 147 blocks in a BU uniform, Weimar is one away from sole possession of fourth place in the Terrier record books, and seven from Kasey Devine '08 in third.
  • The Terriers are 14-2 this year when leading after three quarters, and 0-7 when trailing. 
SCOUTING NAVY
  • The Mids recently secured a 69-55 road victory against American on Feb. 14.
  • Navy has won three of its last four games, and four of its previous six.
  • During Patriot League play, the Mids' 3.25 turnover margin ranks first among its counterparts, while slotting third in blocks and steals per game.
  • Five-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week Zanai Barnett-Gay leads the team while ranking second in the conference with 17.7 points per game.
  • Kyah Smith averages 12.8 points per game with a team-best 78 assists. 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday marks the 21st all-time meeting between BU and Navy in a series that began in 2011.
  • The series is tied at 10-10, though the Terriers have won six in a row and eight of the last nine matchups.
  • BU is 3-6 on the road against the Mids, taking three of the last four. The Terriers will look to win three-straight road contests vs. Navy for the first time ever.
  • In the first meeting on Jan. 3, the Terriers captured a 62-51 victory.
  • BU made 49 percent of its shots, as Weimar tallied a 19-point, 14-rebound double-double. Mingo scored a career-high 15 points off the bench.
