Women’s Basketball Welcomes American To Boston On Wednesday

BOSTON – In a matchup of two teams tied for fourth place in the Patriot League standings, the Boston University women's basketball program hosts American on Wednesday (Feb. 21). Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
 
BU (15-9, 7-6 PL) sits just one game out of first place, though Army West Point, Holy Cross, and Loyola Maryland all sport an 8-5 record. Ahead of Colgate, Lehigh, and Bucknell by one game, the Terriers will play four of the aforementioned opponents later in the season.
 
American (9-15, 7-6 PL) will play three of its five remaining games on the road. After Wednesday, the Eagles face off against Colgate, Army West Point, Navy, and Loyola Maryland.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU secured its first road victory since Jan. 6 with a 69-60 triumph at Navy on Saturday (Feb. 17).
  • Though the Mids collected 28 offensive rebounds and took 80 shots, the Terriers made 54 percent of their field goals.
  • Junior Alex Giannaros scored 25 points on a career-high seven three-pointers.
  • Sophomore Anastasiia Semenova recorded 14 points, while freshman Aoibhe Gormley racked up career-highs of 10 rebounds and seven assists.
  • In its last four games, BU is shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range.
  • With that effort, the Terriers' .373 three-point percentage is now 13th in the nation.
  • Giannaros drained her 300th career field goal in the win over the Mids. At 143 career threes, she is six away from top 10 all-time in the Terrier charts.
  • Senior Caitlin Weimar recorded her 900th collegiate rebound last game. She is one of 34 active Division I student-athletes to reach that plateau.
  • Deploying a new starting lineup against Navy in Weimar, Giannaros, Semenova, Gormley, and freshman Audrey Ericksen, BU has had executed eight different matchups this season. Six have led to at least one win.
  • Ericksen is the lone Terrier to start all 24 games this year.

  • The Eagles recently suffered a 64-57 road loss at Lafayette on Feb. 17.
  • American has lost four of its last five games and five of its previous seven, scoring more than 60 points just once in that time frame.
  • During Patriot League play, the Eagles' 9.6 steals per game lead all conference counterparts, while its .285 three-point percentage defense is second.
  • Emily Johns is the lone Eagle averaging double figures this season with 12 points per game, though Ivy Bales has scored 10.8 points per league matchup. 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Wednesday marks the 28th all-time meeting between BU and American in a series that began in 1981.
  • The Eagles sport a 17-10 advantage in the rivalry.
  • BU is 8-4 at home against American, winning five in a row.
  • During that stretch, the Terriers' scoring margin is +71 in Case Gym, just over 14 points per game. However, in five road games across that span, the margin is -21, with a 1-4 record.
  • In the first meeting on Jan. 10, the Eagles captured a 91-87 double overtime victory.
