BOSTON – The Boston University women's lacrosse team begins its 2024 season on Saturday with an afternoon tilt at Merrimack. Opening draw against the Warriors is set for 4 p.m.
The Terriers, who started the 2023 season on a five-game winning streak, look to repeat the early season momentum on Saturday. They begin their slate in the same fashion with Merrimack being their first contest.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU returns 20 student-athletes, 17 of whom made an appearance in 2023.
- Of those 17 Terriers, 10 made at least one start.
- Seniors Ellen Monahan and Quinn Ferry are the two members of the group that started all 18 games last season.
- Sophomore Jayne Feeney is BU's leading returner in goals with 17 in 2023.
- BU adds nine newcomers to the 2024 squad, seven of which are freshmen.
- The freshman class includes three attackers, two midfielders, one defender and one goalkeeper.
- Two junior transfers add seasoned talent to the squad with one at defense and one at attack.
- BU was picked by the league's coaches and sports information directors to finish fifth in the annual Patriot League preseason poll.
- Monahan is BU's leading returner in draw controls as she registered 46 last season.
- Junior Hannah Tillier is BU's leading returner in both points (29) and assists (14).
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
- Merrimack will also open its season on Saturday.
- The Warriors ended the 2023 slate with a 4-13 record.
- Eleven freshmen and 23 upperclassmen make up the Merrimack roster.
- Merrimack returns graduate students Kelly Corrigan and Sophie Scearbo who both earned All-NEC honors last season.
- Head coach Jen Fox Sargent is in her third season at the helm.
THE SERIES
- This will be the third meeting between BU and Merrimack in as many seasons.
- BU has won both previous contests, scoring 17 goals each time.
- In 2022, BU defeated Merrimack on the road 17-15.
- The Terriers most recently won 17-7 at home.
