Terriers Prepped For Outdoor Patriot League Championships

BOSTON – The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams travel to Bucknell for the Patriot League Championships this weekend. Competition begins on Friday (May 3) at 9 a.m. and Saturday (May 4) at 8:45 a.m.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • Entering the championships, BU owns 14 of the current top two marks in the league across multiple events.
  • Six Terriers boast the top marks in the league headed into the championships: Foster Malleck (1500m), Vera Sjöberg (1500m, 5000m), Freddy Collins (5000m), Asia Hamilton (high jump), Peace Omonzane (long & triple jump) and Stuart Bladon (decathlon)
  • Six Terriers have the second-best mark in the league as well: Dakota Jackson (100m), Parker Schneider (1500m), Malleck (5000m), Hamilton (long jump), Cole Tucker (shot put) and Ellie Roan (hammer).
  • Sjöberg, who notably broke the school record in the 1500m with her time of 4:13.77, will defend her title in the event. BU has won the last three 1500m titles.
  • Malleck looks to defend his two previous 1500m titles winning in both 2023 and 2024. BU has won the 1500m men's title in seven of its nine Patriot League Championship appearances.
  • Also on the men's side, BU will defend its 4x100m title as Jackson and Leon Christian were on the winning relay last year. 
2023 CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP
  • In 2023, the women finished second with 150 points and the men finished third with 109 points at the outdoor championships.
  • Junior Daisy Liljegren was named the women's Track Athlete of the Meet and sophomore Vera Sjöberg was chosen as the women's rookie of the meet.
  • Liljegren, Sjöberg, junior Leon Christian, senior Dakota Jackson, graduate student Foster Malleck and junior Matt Spicer are BU's First Team All-Patriot League returners.
  • Junior Emma Lawrence, Sjöberg, sophomore Jada Smith, juniors Steven Franco, Ryan Rosenberger and sophomore Parker Schneider are BU's Second Team All-Patriot League returners.
PATRIOT LEAGUE HISTORY
  • Since joining the Patriot League in 2014, the men have finished in third place five times and had their highest points total in 2017 with 147.
  • The women won the outdoor title in the 2014 season with 203.5 points and have finished second four times.
  • BU has had men's individual champions at least once in the 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m Steeplechase, 5000m, 110m hurdles, 4x100m relay, 400m hurdles, hammer, triple jump, high jump and long jump,
  • The Terriers have also claimed at least one individual women's champion in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, high jump, long jump and triple jump.
