Women’s Soccer Travels to Vermont for Road Opener on Sunday

BOSTON – For its first road contest of the 2024 campaign, the Boston University women's soccer program treks to Vermont on Sunday (Aug. 25). Opening kick from Virtue Field is set for 1 p.m.
 
BU (0-2-1) will play the first of its four non-conference road matches. Vermont (1-0-1) is in the midst of a four-game homestand.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers recently closed out their home swing with a 1-0 setback to UMass Lowell on Thursday (Aug. 22).
  • BU outshot the River Hawks 12-3, but the visitors tallied a goal in the 72nd minute off a corner kick to seal the result.
  • For the second-straight match, the Terriers generated 11 corner kicks.
  • BU has 27 corner kicks on the season. No other Patriot League side has eclipsed 20 entering the weekend.
  • The Terriers' nine corners per game is tied for ninth in Division I as of Friday (Aug. 23).
  • With eight of her nine shot attempts on goal, junior Giulianna Gianino is one of 19 student-athletes in the nation with a shot accuracy at 88.9 percent or higher.

SCOUTING VERMONT
  • The Catamounts are 1-0-1 on the year, most recently defeating Division II foe Saint Anselm 3-0 on Wednesday (Aug. 21).
  • In its first game of the year, Vermont tied UConn 2-2. UConn is BU's next opponent following Sunday's tilt.
  • Midfielder Bailey Ayer leads the Catamounts with two goals and four points on the year. Kylee Carafoli has started both matches, making 10 saves against 28 shots.
  • Ayer, forward Kate Bossert, and defender Maddy Cronin were named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team for Vermont, who was projected fifth in the preseason poll behind New Hampshire and UMass Lowell
  • Last year, Vermont sported a 10-7-1 record, going 3-4-1 in conference play and reaching the America East semifinals.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Sunday marks the 19th all-time meeting between BU and Vermont in a series that began in 1996.
