Terriers Drop 1-0 Contest at UNH

DURHAM, N.H. – The Boston University women's soccer team fell 1-0 at UNH on Sunday afternoon.
 
The first half featured big defensive efforts on both sides, with BU logging one shot and UNH logging none in the opening frame. Both teams picked up the pace in the second half but it was the Wildcats (5-1-1) who found the back of the net in the 62nd minute which the Terriers (0-5-2) could not match.
 
Sophomore Kaiya Stewart notched two shots on goal while sophomore Samantha Aronson and graduate student Lily Matthews each recorded one. Goalkeeper Celia Braun made three saves in the loss.
 
Meghan Guarente scored the game-winner for UNH off a rebound. Rainey made four saves in net for the Wildcats.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU got its defensive efforts underway early as it fended off a corner kick in the first minute and soon after another loose ball in the box.
  • Lily Matthews fired off a shot at the 6' mark which missed wide.
  • UNH looked to score at the 9' mark but junior Mackenzie Stickelman stifled its rush to keep the game scoreless.
  • The first shot on goal of the day came from Aronson whose efforts were halted by the UNH goalkeeper.
  • Freshman Jaiden Schultz had a cross that made its way into the box but BU could not get the ball in the net.
  • UNH went back on offense but its shot off the rush went wide 29 minutes in.
  • Another BU corner was awarded with 10 minutes to go in the half but the Terriers did not score.
  • The Wildcats rushed up the field at took a corner with five seconds to go which yielded no result, making it 0-0 with the first half gone.
  • Early in the second half, UNH intercepted a BU pass but Braun makes a clutch save in the box to keep the Wildcats from scoring.
  • The Wildcats continued their advances with a powerful shot that hit the crossbar minutes later.
  • UNH was awarded a free kick after a collision near the box. 
  • The Wildcats then crossed the ball to the center and scored at the 62-minute mark after the ball rebounded off a BU defender.
  • Shortly after the reset, Helene Tyburczy was given a yellow card.
  • UNH found itself with a corner opportunity but the follow up shot went over the crossbar.
  • Braun made multiple saves to keep UNH from adding to its total

  • Kaiya Stewart gave BU a chance to tie the game at the 89' mark but her shot was saved, bringing the final score to UNH 1, BU 0.

  • Shots favored UNH 5-4, with all of UNH's shots coming in the second half.

  • Tyburczy's yellow card was the sole one of the game and her first of the season.
