BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Boston University women's soccer team picked up two Patriot League weekly awards on Monday (Oct. 13) with seniors
Mackenzie Stickelman and
Helene Tyburczy earning Midfielder and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Stickelman captured her second Midfielder of the Week honor this year and joined classmate
Giulianna Gianino as the only Patriot League student-athletes to earn the award multiple times this season. Tyburczy collected her first Patriot League weekly award as a Terrier and became the first to pick up the recognition since Jenna Oldham on Oct. 24, 2022.
Stickelman paced the Terriers with three points in a 3-0 win over Bucknell on Oct. 11. The senior found the primary assist on BU's first goal in the 13th minute before heading home the final tally on another corner in the second half. She has racked up nine points in BU's last three games, all wins, and is up to a career-high six goals (fourth in the Patriot League) and 13 points (fifth) this season.
Tyburczy anchored a Terrier back line that produced its second consecutive shutout, and third in the last four matches, with the win over the Bison. BU's defense allowed just 11 shots, three of which were on target, to a Bison team that ranks fourth in the Patriot League in total shots. Tyburczy has played 1,150 minutes while starting all 13 matches, leading a Terrier team that is third in the conference in scoring margin this year.
Senior
Margy Porta was listed as an honorable mention in the Patriot League weekly awards after potting BU's first goal vs. Bucknell, giving her five points in the previous three games.
BU starts a two-game homestand vs. Holy Cross on Wednesday (Oct. 15). Opening kick is set for 6 p.m.
