No. 18 Terriers Skate Past Vermont, 2-1
December 5, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - Freshman Charlie Trethewey collected his first collegiate goal as the No. 18 Boston University men's ice hockey team defeated Vermont, 2-1, on Friday night at Agganis Arena.
BU (8-7-1, 5-4-0 HE) never trailed against UVM (4-9-0, 2-5-0 HE), as sophomore Kamil Bednarik lit the lamp at 14:44 in the first period before Trethewey doubled the advantage at 14:38 of the second period. The Catamounts cut BU's lead in half at 9:08 of the final frame, but sophomore Mikhail Yegorov made two clutch stops with the UVM net empty in the final minute to preserve the victory.
Junior Jack Harvey collected assists on both BU goals while sophomores Cole Hutson and Sacha Boisvert each recorded one assist apiece. Yegorov stopped all 17 shots he faced in the second stanza as part of a 25-save performance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers took two penalties in the opening 10 minutes of the game, but BU's penalty kill conceded zero shots on target and blocked three others to keep the Catamounts scoreless in their only two power-play chances of the night.
- Shortly after, Bednarik opened the contest's scoring at 14:44. Hutson's initial shot from the blueline went wide and deflected off the glass behind UVM's net. Harvey scooped up the puck and found Bednarik ready to fire from the right circle past goaltender Axel Mangbo (26 saves).
- The Terriers led the Catamounts in shots on net, 13-4, over the first 20 minutes.
- Boisvert rang the rubber off the pipe at 7:17 of the second period and then drew BU's second power-play attempt soon after, but the Terriers were unable to convert the opportunity.
- Yegorov did not see much action in the first frame but denied a shorthanded breakaway attempt just 52 seconds into the middle frame and then flashed the leather with a point-blank stop at 10:28.
- The Terriers could not find the back of the net on their third man advantage, but Trethewey lit the lamp four seconds after the power play expired. Boisvert carried the puck up the left wall and floated it cross-ice through four Catamounts and onto Trethewey's tape for the strike.
- Yegorov made another terrific stop late in the second to keep the lead at 2-0.
- Vermont made it 2-1 with 10:52 remaining in regulation but the Terriers held off a final Catamount push to secure all three points in the league standings.
