Women’s Basketball to Host American on Senior Day

BOSTON – Starting the last homestand of the 2024-25 regular season, the Boston University women's basketball program welcomes American to Case Gym on Saturday, Feb. 22. Opening tip at The Roof is set for 2 p.m.
 
BU (9-16, 3-11 PL) seeks its first home victory since Jan. 27. The Terriers enter the weekend tied with Loyola Maryland for eighth place in the Patriot League standings and sit one game behind seventh-place Lafayette.
 
American (1-24, 1-13 PL) trails the Terriers and Greyhounds by two games with four regular season games remaining. The Eagles sport an 0-11 record in road games this year.
 
Saturday marks Senior Day for BU. In a pregame ceremony that will begin at approximately 1:44 p.m., the Terriers will honor Natalie Jasper and Alex Giannaros in addition to team manager Vanessa Rosa. The day also closes out City of Boston Week, where Boston residents can receive complimentary tickets using the specified link at the top of the article.
 
The game will air on ESPN+, with Brian Maurer (COM'07), Mason Jablonsky and Jack Hughes on the call. GoTerriers.com will provide live statistics and an audio-only broadcast, while the Patriot League supplies an international stream.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers snapped their four-game losing streak with a 55-38 victory at Loyola Maryland.
  • Leading for all but 15 seconds in the game, BU set season bests with 38 points allowed and just seven turnovers while coaxing 17 Greyhound turnovers.
  • Sophomore Aoibhe Gormley was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field to match her season high with 16 points.
  • Junior Anete Adler added 13 points off the bench.
  • Arriving to Terrier Town as a junior, Jasper has appeared in 14 games off the bench in two seasons. She will graduate in May with a degree in holocaust, genocide & human studies from the College of Arts & Sciences.
  • Set to be the first four-year letterwinner during head coach Melissa Graves' tenure, Giannaros ranks top 10 in program history in points (1,287 points – 10th), scoring average (12.0 points per game – tied for ninth), three pointers (214 – fourth) and three-point percentage (.410 – second).
  • Giannaros will graduate in May with a degree in education & human development , specializing in youth development & justice, from the Wheelock College of Education & Human Development.
  • Rosa has served as a team manager for two seasons, assisting the coaching staff in various operations ranging from travel, practice and game day management and day-to-day support.
SCOUTING AMERICAN
  • The Eagles have lost five games in a row, most recently a 63-43 setback to Army West Point on Feb. 19.
  • American's lone win on the year came against Lafayette, a 54-52 triumph on Jan. 29.
  • Prior to that, the Eagles lost their first 19 games in 2024-25.
  • Cecilia Kay paces American with 11.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. She is one of two Patriot League student-athletes averaging a double-double in conference play with 12.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per contest.
  • Laura Nogues averages 7.9 points while leading the Eagles with 33 three-pointers. 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday marks the 30th all-time meeting between BU and American in a series that began in 1981.
  • The Eagles sport a 17-12 advantage in the rivalry, though the Terriers have won four of the previous five matchups.
  • At home, BU is 9-4 and riding a six-game winning streak.
  • The Terriers won the first contest this season, 70-67, back on Jan. 8 in Washington, D.C.
  • Giannaros scored 21 points and sophomore Sisi Bentley notched 15 points to guide BU to a comeback victory after trailing by as many as 15 points to the Eagles.

  • The Terriers host Lehigh in their final home game of the regular season on Wednesday (Feb. 26) for its Deaf Studies and PlayBold Game. Opening tip is slated for 6 p.m.
