No. 12 Terriers Fall at UConn, 4-1

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 12 Terriers (21-10-2, 18-6-2 HE) dropped a 4-1 outcome to UConn (20-11-2, 18-6-2 HE) on Friday evening at the Toscano Family Ice Forum.
 
The Huskies went up 1-0 in the first before building to a 4-0 lead in the middle stanza. The Terriers found the back of the net in the third on a power play but could not catch up to UConn's lead. BU pulled its netminder with 1:16 to go in the game for an extra skater but did not overcome its deficit as it fell in a 4-1 decision.
 
Graduate student Lindsay Bochna, who played in her 150th career game, scored BU's lone goal. Senior Christina Vote and junior Clara Yuhn picked up assists on the goal. Sophomore Mari Pietersen made 11 saves across 29:06 minutes while senior Callie Shanahan made 14 in the remaining 29:38.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UConn got on the board first with 13:08 to go in the first frame.
  • BU was called for tripping with 31 seconds to play in the first and successfully killed the penalty off in the beginning of the second.
  • The Huskies added to their lead shortly after the power play expired with a goal at the 2:42 mark.
  • UConn extended its lead to 3-0 with a shot from the slot at 9:06 in the middle frame.
  • The Terriers then swapped Pietersen for Shanahan in net.
  • UConn secured a 4-0 lead with a shot from the point at the 15:36 mark.
  • The Terriers entered the box for body checking with four seconds left in the second and had another successful penalty kill at the beginning of the third.
  • The Huskies went to the box for body checking at the 2:24 mark, giving the Terriers their first power play of the day.
  • BU made the most of its advantage when passes from Yuhn and Vote found Bochna at the crease, who shot the puck between goaltender Megan Warrener's legs to get the Terriers on the board.
  • The Terriers were called for cross checking with 7:50 to go in the third.
  • BU was once again successful on the penalty kill.
  • Shanahan was pulled from between the posts with 1:16 to play, but the Terriers did not add any goals as they fell 4-1.
 
GAME NOTES
  • UConn outshot BU 29 to 25.
  • BU won 29 of 45 faceoffs.
  • The Terriers were 1-for-1 on the power play while UConn was 0-for-3.
  • The Huskies blocked 11 shots while BU blocked seven.
  • Bochna's goal helped her tie her 2023-24 season points total of 18.
