Steven Franco Wears Gold Medal

Men's Track & Field Takes Third at Patriot League Outdoor Championships

May 3, 2025

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Boston University men's track & field team finished third at the 2025 Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

The Terriers earned 134 points, behind Navy (236) and Army West Point (201). The women's squad finished as runners-up with 167 points, trailing Army West Point (215.5) and ahead of Navy (157).

BU ended the championships with 30 total medals, 10 of them gold. The Terriers also broke four total school records and six meet records in the process.

Junior Vera Sjöberg was named Women's Track Athlete of the Meet, junior Peace Omonzane earned Women's Field Athlete of the Meet and freshman Guy Margalit took home Men's Rookie of the Meet honors.

Top Dogs
  • Senior Steven Franco completed his decathlon with 7,289 points, taking home gold and setting a new school record along with the meet record, both of which were set by former Terrier Stuart Bladon in 2023. He was the only competitor to break 7,000 points this year and won by 382 points.
  • Sjöberg pocketed not only two gold medals, but also two meet records. She blazed to a 4:14.37 time in the 1500m to win and closed out her weekend with a 16:11.40 mark in the 5000m for the win.
  • Junior Michael Onilogbo sprinted to a 10.41 time in the 100m, taking gold with a time that ranks second all-time at BU.
  • Omonzane picked up her second gold medal and meet record of the weekend with a 13.09m attempt in the triple jump. That mark is a personal best and the second-best mark in school history.
  • Omonzane has dominated the horizontal jumps in the Patriot League this year, sweeping all four of the indoor long jump, indoor triple jump, outdoor long jump and outdoor triple jump crowns. She is the first PL athlete to accomplish that feat since 2012.

Podium Appearances
  • For the second straight day, BU once again completed a horizontal jumps sweep on the women's side, as Emma Lawrence earned silver (12.50m) and Asia Hamilton picked up bronze (12.39m)
  • Sophomore Karsen Vesty finished second with a 3:50.67 time in the 1500m and was followed by junior Parker Schneider with a 3:51.06 mark, taking bronze.
  • In the women's 100m hurdles, freshman Iman Roka ripped off a 13.80 time — good for a tie with third all-time at BU — and earned silver.
  • Junior Ijeoma Ezechukwu finished the 200m in 23.84, earning silver.
  • In the 400m hurdles final, freshman Kendall Barnhart went under one minute for the first time in her career, taking silver with a 59.58 mark.
  • Margalit landed at 15.36m in the men's triple jump to earn silver.
  • In the high jump, Hamilton posted a 1.69m height to win a bronze medal.
  • Onilogbo crossed the line in 20.95 in the 200m final to take bronze
  • Senior Cole Tucker closed out his final Patriot League Championships with a 16.92m mark in the shot put, earning him bronze.
  • Freshman Olivia Hughes completed her heptathlon with a bronze medal, scoring 4,909 points in the effort.
  • Sophomore Shamiso Sikaneta ran a time of 1:48.59 in the 800m to earn bronze.
  • The 4x100m relay crew of freshman Thomas Lamkin, Onilogbo, freshman Ascanio Andreis De Gregorio and senior Leon Christian took bronze with the second-fastest time in school history of 39.92 seconds.
