ORONO, Maine — The Boston University women's soccer team (2-1) rode two goals and an assist from senior Giulianna Gianino and a tally from junior Ava Maguire to a 3-1 victory over the Maine Black Bears (0-2) on Sunday afternoon.

Gianino scored both of her goals in the first half while Maguire's finish came just 23 seconds into the second frame.

Gianino added an assist and senior Margy Porta, sophomore Alli Powderly and junior Ciara Kennedy all notched assists.

The Terriers kept the Maine offense at bay, allowing just three shots on target. Senior goalkeeper Susan Shobeiri notched two saves in her second collegiate win.

Maine was able to score once, as Emma Nicholson slotted her first career goal home in the 76^th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED

BU registered the first shot on net in the 8^th minute as Porta's effort was saved by the Maine keeper.
The Terriers netted the first goal of the game off Gianino's shot to the bottom right corner of the net in the 23^rd minute off assists from Porta and Powderly.
Gianino stayed hot in the first half, potting her second of the game just 13 minutes after her first tally. This effort was a shot from outside the box that sailed into the net over the keeper's head to give BU a 2-0 lead on an assist by Kennedy.
Maguire wasted no time in the second half, scoring just 23 seconds into the frame to extend the BU lead to 3-0 off an assist from Gianino.
The Black Bears earned just their second corner kick of the day in the 58^th minute but could not get a shot off as the Terriers were able to clear the ball.
On the next possession, Gianino was denied by the Maine goalkeeper on a breakaway chance that could have given her a hat trick.
The Black Bears finally broke through with a goal in the 76^th minute off the foot of sophomore Emma Nicholson, cutting BU's lead to 3-1.
Shobeiri just had one more save to make in the 90^th minute to preserve the 3-1 win for the Terriers.

STATS

The Terriers outshot Maine 11-7 and had six shots on target to the Black Bears' three.
BU generated four corner kicks in the first half while the Black Bears had one, but Maine came back with three in the second while the Terriers earned none.
Maine did not generate a shot on goal in the first half.
Two Black Bears were shown yellow cards as well as BU's Powderly.

NOTES

With a career-high five points, Gianino eclipsed 50 career points and has accrued at least one point in each game this season.
Maguire's tally was her first career goal and third career point. She last earned a point on October 17, 2023 with an assist against Yale.
Powderly's assist marked her first career point.
The Terriers provided Maine with their second home loss of the season. The Black Bears were unbeaten at home from 2021 until their first two games of this year.
BU earned its first road win of the year.
The Terriers now own a 17-4-4 series lead over Maine in the all-time series.
