BOSTON – Following a three-game road trip to open the 2025 season, the Boston University men's soccer team will start off the home slate against Brown Friday night with action set to begin at 7 p.m.
As part of the home opener, fans will be able to participate in the sunglasses giveaway and pick up a free schedule poster as well. BU students are encouraged to arrive early with the first 30 receiving a free BU soccer beanie.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers enter the contest coming off their biggest scoring output, a 5-1 win at Charleston, since posting the identical score against Harvard in 2008.
- Sophomore Pharis Petrica received PL Midfielder of the Week honors after assisting on junior Lapo Romieri's goal against the Cougars and scoring one of his own with help from freshman Austin Mobray and junior Keke Abai.
- In total, nine Terriers have earned at least one point with five scoring one goal apiece through three games. Mobray currently leads the team with two assists so far.
- Petrica became the first to record a goal and an assist this season with his three-point performance at Charleston, who bounced back from the loss to BU by upsetting No. 15 North Carolina, 2-0, on Monday.
- Senior Ben Alexander has played all 270 minutes at net, posting a .706 save percentage and 1.67 goals against average with one shutout against New Hampshire.
- BU went 2-2-6 at home last season with conference wins over Army West Point and Bucknell. The Terriers came up just short to Santa Clara and Colgate.
- Though opponents are averaging six extra shots per game with a 20-11 advantage in corner kicks, BU has a higher shots on goal percentage, .696 - .415.
SCOUTING BROWN
- Coming off an 8-8-1 season that included a 2-6-0 roadk mark, the Bears opened the new year with a 2-1 win vs. Holy Cross last Friday and 1-0 victory at Fairfield on Monday.
- Finishing second on the team last season with 13 points (4g,5a), Mads Stistrup Petersen has scored a goal in both wins.
- 2024 All-Ivy First Team member Lorenzo Amaral assisted on the game winner scored against the Stags after leading the Bears last year with 22 points (8g,6a).
- Goalkeeper Henrik Weiper has totaled three saves over 180 minutes for a .750 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average after posting a 7-7-1 record in 2024 with a .725 save percentage and 1.27 GAA.
- Through two games, opponents are averaging 1.5 more shots (11-9.5), thanks in part to a 12-8 advantage in corners
SERIES HISTORY
- Brown owns a 26-15-5 record in the all-time series that dates back to 1969, having posted a 3-0-1 mark over the last four meetings.
- Last season in Providence, the Bears scored all five of their goals in the first half, starting at 3:57.
- Sophomore Markus Ramsey helped BU avoid the shutout with his first career goal in the second half.
- The Terriers last hosted Brown in 2018, dropping a 2-1 decision after claiming a 2-0 home victory in 2016.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Terriers will hit the road again and begin Patriot League play at Army West Point on Saturday, Sept. 13, with a 6 p.m. start time.
- BU has won each of the last two years en route to the conference regular season title.
- Facing a 1-0 deficit entering the second half, BU scored the next three goals at home last season after earning a 2-0 road victory in 2023.
